Interesting statement from Durham re Stokes
Durham said in a short statement on their website: "Following last week's reported incidents involving Ben Stokes, Durham County Cricket Club would like to make it clear that the club does not condone discriminatory behaviour or prejudice of any nature.

Is that implying they believe Stokes was coming to the aid of the couple being subject to homophobic abuse?

reads like the opposite to me......... they are distancing themselves from discriminatory behaviour or prejudice, which they surely wouldn't do if they thought it was coming from a bunch of ssiped up students who needed some chastisement by gallant Ben

It's an ambiguous statement but the explanation from Stokes seems to be that him and Hales saw two men who were being abused, they stepped in and then one of the assailants threatened them with a broken bottle and that's when things really got heated.

Badly worded, now there's a surprise, but Durham are clarifying that the reason they haven't taken any action is because the matter is being dealt with by ECB and their own non-action doesn't imply that they condone their alleged actions.

Yep! Seems as if Stokes and Hales are being re-interviewed this week so the picture may become clearer before too long. Although Durham no doubt will release another vague statement several days later!

It would be nice if the club could be bothered to let their members and supporters know who has been retained and who has been released or left from this years squad. No need for a public announcement but a quick statement on the twitter feed would be nice.
As far as I know they have not informed us about Hickey, Arshad, Coughlin(jnr), Harding and Main and possibly a couple more.

Yes, particularly when they're extremely efficient at requesting membership renewals even though members have no idea at the moment what sort of team they're be paying to watch.
Has Coughlin jnr been released?
By my reckoning we now have a squad of 10 players with 2 Irishmen part-timers.

You are not wrong with the membership renewals. It will probably be the same as the last few seasons where we do not actually know in terms of an official statement from the club till the membership books are issused as to which payers have actually been released and who have been added from the Academy or elsewhere.

It's probably the equivalent of reading tea leaves but ...the club tweeted happy birthday to young Coughlin a few days ago so that might be a sign he is staying. Or just someone operating the Twitter account who doesn't know he's going /gone!
There'll probably be some waffling statement in a few weeks and hidden in the middle paragraphs will be the list of those who have been let go.

Quick off the mark, but not that efficient... they sent me 3 renewals, presumably because I bought 3 T20 season tickets this year.

And the letter from Botham refers to P Coughlin benefiting next year from the experience of this one! Obviously that was written before he jumped ship and perhaps supports the claim by Emmerson that Durham were sure he was going to stay and had a press release ready.

It's even more unfortunate than I thought - his exact words are " The experience gained by" Coughlin and the other players he lists " will no doubt greatly strengthen our squad going into 2018."

which may turn out to be true, now that Coughlin won't be our T20 capt next year. Almost as hopeless a captain as Stonemercenary was
