He won three out of four World Allrounder competitions, only losing against Imran Khan in Kowloon, while winning in Arundel, Taunton and Hong Kong. His old mate Hadlee could never beat him, despite giving it a good bash. "I know it bugs him," says Rice with a smile.

Arthur Crabtree wrote:Fairly gloomy picture about the state of cricket around the country and the world, which I expect a lot of people who grew up watching Test matches, and following first class cricket can identify with. Certainly I can. The unknown factor is whether a sustainable future is out there for the game based on a T20 format. That may be the case locally, but it has to be unlikely internationally.
The future of international cricket feels less certain than at any time in my life, and the risk for me is that by diminishing Test matches (which is well underway in a variety of ways) the administrators and players are removing the form of the game that gives it its stature and credibility, and T20 won't be able to replicate that. Could easily be my age talking, I know. Same with the article. There's a tendency to presume that the way you feel is the way most people do.
