What's buzzing in the world of cricket....

Cheteshwar Pujara

Chet has become one of the mainstay of the Indian batting lineup. It was never going to be easy to replace Rahul, however Chet has been a prolific run scorer for India in test matches. He has batted in 81 innings in 48 matches, averaging at 51.32 which is top class. He has 3 double hundreds (2 versus Aussies and 1 versus England) to his name. There are very few batters nowadays who have better temperament and stamina to play long innings in most demanding conditions. He is one of the reliable test match batsmen in modern era with still lot to offer in test format. To improve his test skills in conditions different to what they are at home, he has played for Derbyshire, Yorkshire and currently contracted with Nottinghamshire. He has played some memorable innings

In ODI's and T20's he has been a flop show, due to the very slow scoring rate than what is acceptable nowadays. So poor that he cannot even make the IPL 11 and nobody was interested in bidding for him in IPL 2017. This will give him more chance to concentrate on the longer format.

112 from 206 balls versus Gloucestershire who do not have big names in the bowling lineup, but it's still a good stay at the wicket which will help him in longer run. :clap

Sensational player in Asian conditions

Not so good elsewhere (I'm being polite)

If he can start scoring runs elsewhere, only has 1 hundred in 17 tests outside of Asia, then he can carve himself a very long career just like Rahul did

He has more than enough time to do that and appears to have a very solid technique

I think he'll be fine - he basically had a horror run of 7 tests away to Eng and NZ in 2014 at around the time he was losing his way and way back in 2010 he had a bad start to his career in SA. He had a good series in SA in 2013 and a reasonable one in Aus in 2014, and I'd expect him to be much better now

With experience i do expect him to be relatively better as well. Also that he is not picked by anyone in IPL means that he gets to play county cricket in UK during IPL. So he gets that extra time of long format practice in adverse conditions, which is useful practice as our players are not well acquainted with such conditions. So we have at least one player who is relatively more used to those type of conditions. This should help him in being the top pick outside sub continent.

In the 38 innings that Chet and Vijayawada have batted with each other, the duo average 70 (!) in test format.

Brilliant ton of 123 runs. :salute In the world of test batsmen playing T20 in tests, it is great to see a proper test match innings . This is what I like about his game. With very irresponsible stroke players like Rahul at top, Vijay too in pathetic form, stroke players like Virat, Rohit and Rishabh Pant to follow he is perfectly sandwidched with contrasting skills . Virat Kohli failed totally in first innings but Chet scored the runs expected from Virat. Even tomorrow with Virat being out it gives us confidence that the fighter Chet is safe at crease.
