Had a long discussion last night with a mate back home. The conclusion was that Smith and Lyon are the 2 most important players in this Australian team. If either got injured neither could be replaced. Also decided the Lyon is the most important bowler in this team. He is the glue that allows the quicks to rotate. And he now seems to enjoy taking wickets in the first innings.

This has to be the best time to bowl for the English bowlers. Perhaps if they can limit the lead to 350. Ashes cricket, anything can happen.

England will get the new ball under lights tonight.

That has to be a small bit of comfort for English supporters. They could very easily go through Australias top order.

Even if they do, you'd think that Aus would have a minimum of 300 run lead, and it will probably be over 400, even with a fairly poor Aus batting effort in their second innings.

lets hope the Aussie bowlers make similar use of the favourable night time conditions. If we can get away with the loss of only one wicket it'll be a good result, I think. More likely perhaps that we commence our innings under lights, chasing 400, and subside to 80-5. Then the 5-0 will really be on

Indeed. But the england bowlers are bowling very well here in helpful conditions. This is their last chance in this match. They need to make an impact when the ball is working for them. Can see a few wickets falling tonight. Can not see Usam or Handscomb surviving long in conditions like this.

The outfield seemed slow to me. The way the ball was running a mammoth score is ruled out. I mean 500 or 600 excluding lead. But expect England to spread fielders in outfield and less in catching positions given the runs already there. So Aussies will be benifited imo.

England are attacking now, and probably need to this evening. If Aus has 7 wickets in tack tomorrow morning then i would expect the spread field.

Anderson is bowling very well here. Could easily have had another couple.

Not watching the match. But how long will they keep attacking. As soon as this partnerships gets to 30 odd they will have to spread the field. Okay if they still attack they will atleast have to reconsider defensive fields once the lead is 350, which I guess is match winning. England will like to reduce 4 & 6 which means the run rate will be relatively slow as compared to that in attacking field. and Aussies bat for longer time for same number of runs. That is what England will look at imo. They will prefer to bowl Aussies for 500 by tomorrow third session than having to bat for 5 sessions.

I think whilst the ball is doing something, they need to attack. They need 4-5 wickets this evening realistically. These two are keeping it tight, and finding the edges.

But once England loose the intensity, then they will need to spread the field. Its a real long shot for England, but these are the conditions that suit them best. They need to try and maximise them now. If not the test is long gone. As opposed to now where it is now which is very far into the distance:)
