Yeah. That website has been unusually informative of late - something must be wrong!

Very low membership renewal perhaps?

Could well be. Underwhelming season last year and also FTECB seem intent on marginalising the 4 day game- whilst wondering why we struggle to produce top quality batsmen and bowlers.

so far I've correctly selected the top 6 in the Eng/Oz XI. I have a feeling, though, that I'm gong to be in a minority for the allrounder slots

another 3 wickets for McCarthy, as Ireland complete the series win over Afghanistan. He's had a good series, I think

Very interesting. I didn't realise the ECB salary cap was 40% less than the other teams. I still thaik the official line that they couldn't afford more in any case is suspect - they could surely spend a fair chunk of the money 'saved' by not paying wages of the first team departees and still be under the salary cap.

and indeed I was. I voted for Blackwell, the result went to Stokes and Botham. Now that we have to decide the bowlers we suddenly find ourselves with 5 seamers and no spinners... which is fairly typical, but not that smart... which is also fairly typical, of course.

Blackwell was the missing piece in our team for a while. We finally had a spin bowler who could take wickets and tie up an end, as well as score valuable and reliable runs when we were in trouble, and who didn't spend his best years with us away on England duty.

still...... I always was rather dim

Just renewed my membership decided against enrolling as gold member which involves commiting for 5 years. Dodged a bullet then as "expert" opinion after the Ashes debacle appears to suggest that the remedy lies in further reducing CC fixtures.Apparently then nothing to do with playing the CC on puddings in Spring or worn pitches in Autumn.
The Cricketer suggests FTECB restructuring will also lead to a diluting of the CC.

Traditionalists will be dismayed that county representation on the ECB board is set to be severed, and fear this will have ramifications for the County Championship down the line.

never listen to expert opinion. when Aus couldnt buy an ashes win, these experts said that Australian cricketers didn't play enough first class cricket because there weren't enough state sides. These too big/too small arguments have gone on for as long as I can remember.

severing board member links to counties might be a good thing. IMO it's hard to not conclude that our punishment a year ago had as much to do with board members gleaning as much advantage as they could for their own counties, as it did with attempting to deal with the financial situation in a timely and responsible manner.

having a city based T20 comp freed from the constraints of these same board members who have been trying to ensure that such a comp would glean even more advantage for their respective counties, might actually mean that the rest of county cricket can get on with doing what is best for county cricket rather than trying to pander to the bean counters who are only interested in making as much money as possible before the whole thing goes bust.... just in case the queen dies suddenly, you understand. It might also mean that county cricket won't be squashed into the margins of the season with all the puddings and used pitches that you mentioned above, because the bean counters will have their magic money tree without having to squeeze county cricket dry to get their hands on it

Harrison reiterated the ECB was in a "holding position" while it awaits a decision from the Crown Prosecution Service on any potential charge that Stokes may face.

Only when the legal proceedings surrounding Stokes are concluded will any cricketing disciplinary decision be made.

Harrison said that could be "six to 12 months away".

While Stokes is not available for England selection, he is permitted to play domestic cricket, as demonstrated by his time with Canterbury.

If his current situation is unchanged by the English summer, Harrison said his participation in county cricket would be up to his Durham team.
