Ireland v UAE looks a key game today, both with two wins and a loss so far. And the unbeaten sides Scotland and Zimbabwe meet.

The West Indies beat Netherlands by 52 runs on D/L to top their group.

Evin Lewis (84), Marlon Samuels (73 not out), Rovman Powell (52) and Chris Gayle (46) carried the West Indies to an imposing 309-6. Then, there were three run-outs, as the Dutch made 167-6 when the rain came. Wesley Barresi made 64 and Ryan ten Doeschate 67 not out.

Zimbabwe and Scotland played to a tie...both being all out for 210. Nepal beat Hong Kong to allow Afghanistan to slip through, and while Ireland crushed UAE, they both advanced.

These are the points being carried forward into the Super Sixes....

Group A

West indies 4

Ireland 2

UAE 0

Group B

Zimbabwe 3

Scotland 3

Afghanistan 0

True, but their chances of going through to the WC are pretty minimal given their 0 points carried through. Even if they win all three remaining games they will have six points, which seems to be unlikely to be enough for qualification, and their chances of beating West Indies seem slim given the latter's form. In fact, if Afghanistan don't win tomorrow's game v West Indies, then they are eliminated (looking at it, I think there is mathematically a situation where five teams finish on 4 points and West Indies on 10, but that requires Ireland's games with Scotland and Zimbabwe both to finish as tie or no result).

It seems West Indies are all but certain to advance, but any of Ireland, Zimbabwe or Scotland could take second spot.

I don't understand why this competition has a final, given that the top two teams both qualify for the WC.

Scotland and UAE have assured their ODI status by qualifying, and Netherlands have already guaranteed it, so the round robin for 7-10 still count, as Nepal, Hong Kong and PNG are in a three-way tussle for that final ODI spot.

WI v Afg looks the big game on paper, but with the latter unlikely to qualify, it's a question of how much damage they can do to the West Indies' prospects. UAE v Scotland is the bigger game in terms of who gets to the WC.

West Indies off to a cautious start, 17/1 off 6 with Gayle out for an uncharacteristic 1 off 9 balls. Meanwhile Scotland are off to a bit of a flyer v UAE.

Zimbabwe v Ireland tomorrow is also going to be big - the loser will probably have a pretty slim chance of making the WC.

That looked tough going for WI. I guess they can afford to lose a game though, and better Afg than one of their rivals.

Scotland well placed to win.

Shame more of these countries won't be in the WC.

Any preferences to see go through? Would have like Afg to qualify, but now, maybe WI and Ireland or Scotland.
