Bancroft caught ball tampering. Wonder if we'll see any action by the match ref.

See if you can get some images. It looks quite blatant. He had something like a metal coin in one pocket and looks to be trying to conceal the ball when scratching it. I don't think he acted on individual impulse. I suspect team management put him up to this. Smith was constantly throwing the ball to him.

Two quick wickets with du Plessis out for 20 and Bavuma for five.

Ball not changed so presumably no evidence of tampering.

Heres some info from the ABC

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-03-25/c ... ng/9583794

That looks pretty conclusive in that he seems to be trying to do something with the ball.

No excuses and if found to be guilty, got to be a few matches on the side lines. Shocking from an Australian perspective.

Pretty big accusations there Mike to say its a team management directive.

Isn't ball tampering always a team action? He wasn't doing it for himself.

Not Aussie bashing here. Any team that denies doing it is lying. Australia crime is getting caught.

How much did du Plessis get in hobart? Three demerit points?

The gentleman game and the spirit of cricket is a myth.

All teams do it.

Blame should fall on Lehmann/Smith, doubt a newbie like Bancroft would ball tamper by himself.

With this ball tampering this series is really turning into a shambles which is a shame because the on field game has been pretty good.

I also read today the CSA officials had their photos taken with supporters who had face masks of Sonny Williams at the ground yesterday.

Ive been away for the last few weeks and only catching up on scores. Wish i had stayed away for another few weeks. This series is really leaving a bad taste.

Australia ball-tampering scandal

Bancroft, Smith admit to ball-tampering :facepalm

http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/22897468/bancroft-smith-admit-ball-tampering

"I had discussions with the match officials, I've been charged with attempting to change the condition of the ball," Bancroft said after play in Cape Town. "We had a discussion during the [lunch] break and I saw an opportunity to use some tape, get some granules from the rough patches on the wickets and change the condition, it didn't work, the umpires didn't change the ball. I was cited on the screen and that resulted in me shoving it down my trousers."

"It was the leadership group's idea. Poor choice and we deeply regret our actions. The coaches weren't involved. It was purely the leadership group who came up with this. This is the first time it has happened under my leadership. We saw this game as such as an important game. We've seen the ball reversing through this series and this ball didn't seem like it was going to go. It's such poor actions. Deeply regrettable and wont happen again. I can promise you. I can promise you this is the first time it has happened.

"I wont consider stepping down [from captaincy]. I still think I am the right person for the job. Today was a big mistake on my part and on the leadership group as well. I have to take control of the ship. This is something I am not proud of. It's something I hope I can learn from and come back from. I am embarrassed. It is a big error in judgement."

Ban them. Simple.

CA needs to ban them.

Kudos for admitting to cheating quickly, but its still cheating and an example needs to be made.

Do you think Smith's captaincy could be under pressure here? Ball-tampering is a serious issue, and one CA may well come down hard on?

I would say he has lost his job. And i would also give him a few tests off as well to show that no one is bigger than the game.

Fair play in taking ownership quickly and protecting the player you put in that situation, but the simple fact is he has put that player in that position. He has shown a lack of leadership, and he has instigated cheating.

I really can not see how he can play in the next test let alone captain Australia. I would be disappointed if CA allowed him to keep his job.
