Boycott wasn't a model cricketer off or on the field. He was a fine opening bat, but if we're just considering onfield excellence, then I nominate: Graham Thorpe, Kevin Pietersen, Graham Swann, James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Bob Willis, Derek Underwood, Alan Knott and Alastair Cook.
Quite apart from my (possibly prejudiced) gut reaction that anyone who thinks he merits being called Sir Whatever is probably a bit of an arse.
Jimmy and cook would be very deserving of a knighthood once they retire
