Without Warner and Smith this is going to help us a lot. Perhaps some first choice Australian bowlers are still recovering from injury as well.

India T20I Squad: Virat Kohli(c), Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Lokesh Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Dinesh Karthik, Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Washington Sundar, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav, K Khaleel Ahmed

India Test Squad: Virat Kohli(c), Murali Vijay, Lokesh Rahul, Prithvi Shaw, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Hanuma Vihari, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Parthiv Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Australia T20I Squad: Aaron Finch(c), Alex Carey, Ashton Agar, Jason Behrendorff, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Chris Lynn, Glenn Maxwell, Ben McDermott, D Arcy Short, Billy Stanlake, Marcus Stoinis, Andrew Tye, Adam Zampa

Manish Pandey in T20i squad is a very bad selection. The selectors probably have not watched Manish Pandey in T20i. Washington Sundar should not be there as well. instead another pace all-rounder considering Hardk Pandya is injured. Strategically very bad selection. Rest of the T20i squad is fine.

Keeping some perspective of two lost away tours to SA and England:

India tour to SA 2018
South Africa won by 72 runs
South Africa won by 135 runs
India won by 63 runs

India tour to England 2018
England won by 31 runs
England won by an innings and 159 runs
India won by 203 runs
England won by 60 runs
England won by 118 runs

Out of last 8 tests in SA and England , we have won 2 tests (one each in SA & England). This time we have a better chance to draw the 4 test series in absence of Steven Smith and Warner who has an impressive average in Australia. This should be relatively easy tour as compared to tour of SA and England. But then we failed to draw even against a poor batting lineup of England after keeping some hopes of draw there as well. So you never know.

There is more chance of us winning the T20i series than the Test series. Virat Kohli will need more support from the other batsmen unlike in SA and England. Bowling attack of Ishant, Shami , Bhuvi and Umesh is experienced. Should ahve tried few bowlers in England so that the bowling attack for this series could have been more potent.

The T20i series is just 3 days away. Good we are starting with T20i which will help our players to get used to the conditions even so slightly before test starts. Also a 3 day warmup is scheduled which will help players get some feel of the conditions. After the severe backlash handed by public and media , Ravi accepted that he was wrong in dealing with warmups on tour of SA and England. No chance he will even think of doing something similar on this tour as far as skipping warm up or reducing match day of warm up.

Asked how important it is for India to win the series in Australia, Shastri said: "You have got to learn from your mistakes. When you go overseas and when you look at teams that travel around now, there aren't too many sides (that travel well). :facepalm

Won't be surprised if In case we get bundled out for 44 in some tough tour, he will point us to Bangladesh folding for 43 against WI in WI this year. If we get whitewashed then he will also point how Bangladesh were whitewashed in test series in SA. He will someday use very poor teams as benchmark to depend our poor performances. Perhaps he has already told some support staff to find how past Indian teams have fared poorly in Australia so that if some ex-cricketers, the media and Indian fans crib about another lost series, he can use those tours to save his job.

Clearly he is already making excuses. BCCI should sack him before waiting for his contract to get over. Problem is we have WC soon and now it's too late to sack a coach with such a negative mindset who gives up before every tough overseas tour and ends up losing and defending team after one shambolic performance after another.

https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/india-in-australia/no-team-travels-well-nowadays-why-pick-on-india-questions-ravi-shastri/articleshow/66677018.cms

Never seen such a coach with so much of negative mindset. Mind you this is not the first time he has shown happiness in loss. After the lost series in SA and England, he was speaking as if he had won those series, not lost those. Also, it needs to be noted how he changes his aspirations so soon as far as away tours are considered. Just few months back he had spoken as below:

Perhaps pressure to play full strength team against Team India as the telecast / advertising revenues can take a huge hit if star Aussie players are rested. Broadcasters withdrawal of sponsorship resulted in bans apart form fan public outcry in Australia. Now it seems broadcasters will not want to miss on huge advertisement rates if star Aussie players are unavailable. As it is said live by the sword , die by the sword.

Obviously the lack of Warner who is prolific scorer in home conditions and Steven Smith who is one of the best current test batsman will result in less viewership. Don't think people are going to watch full innings of Peter Handscomb or some of the other batsman as they would have done if Warner was taking leather of the ball (with the bat mind you ;) ) and Smith playing a long innings.

Shane Warne : For the first that I can remember India come to Australia in the Test matches as favourites.

Steven Waugh : I’ve played against great Indian sides, not sure this side is better than them.

Ravi Shastri : "You have got to learn from your mistakes. When you go overs and when you look at teams that travel around now, there aren't too many sides (that travel well).

Sachin Tendulkar : “I think we have a huge opportunity. Australian team does not look the same Australian team that it used to be and with Smith and Warner not there, this is a great opportunity to go out and do something special,” . “Both (Smith and Warner) are world class players.”

Sourav Ganguly: "It's a great moment for Indian cricket. This is their best opportunity to beat Australia. India are a good side and have good bowling attack. I have seen in England that they (bowlers) have taken 20 wickets in every test. But you also have to keep in mind that Australia in Australia are a different kettle of fish. Many feel that they are a weak outfit but I don't think so,"

Strong suggestions that the bans will be shortened. I think that will be a mistake, as it will no doubt be viewed as a deeply cynical move. Australia start losing - all is forgiven.

Lots of speculation over the Australian squad.

Finch, Khawaja, Paine and the bowling attack look set to be shoo-ins (assuming Khawaja recovers to fitness). It also seems fairly likely that the Marsh brothers will be retained, for better or worse. That leaves a number 3 (or opener if Usman drops down, which apparently he'd prefer to when playing in Oz) and a middle order slot available.

Head is in possession in number 3 spot, but hasn't looked convincing. The middle order spot, who knows? Labuschange is in possession, but again, didn't seem overwhelmingly useful. Handscomb and Maxwell are both theoretical contenders, as is Renshaw for opener. Marcus Harris has also been drawing attention for his Shield performances, although it's largely based on a fine 250*, rather than a run of big scores.
