Mayank Agarwal has been in exemplary form in Ranji since last 2 seasons and also has done well on A tours this year. He deserves a chance even though he has weakness against a full paced delivery at stumps.
Sounds like a big weakness!
Thanks for the info Adi.
I've heard of Gill among the younger players, seems to have had plenty of good press.
Rahul Dravid is India A coach.. Most of them have also been coached by Rahul when our U19 team won the WC. So he understands some of batsmen and vice versa. Shubman Gill has been his understudy in U19 as well as A team. The dictat is that the A tours will be important for selection to international squad.
Shubman stands upright , has a leg stump stance with make shift movement towards middle stump. Most India A batsmen have that stance to begin with, followed by various makeshift movements. Probably Rahul has asked them, not sure. He is not someone whose bat follow through is complete. It's mostly timing and punch half way. Today he got beaten on two balls bowled by offie, turning in to him and hit pads but apart from that there was no sign of struggle. He needed this big innings. A 200 tomorrow and press will back him more for inclusion. The timing of knock is also great considering the opening is in crisis wet Shikhar, Rahul and Vijay. A spot is there to be grabbed.
Regarding Mayank, that weakness will be an issue with someone bowling very fast. But still nobody can do worse than the current openers and he deserves a chance for sure. But not excited about him as much because there are better long term options. Temporarily he is fine to check.
