The sporting world in a state of shock as Durham only lose 4 wickets in 2 sessions and only 28 runs away from a batting point.
Might be a chance of batting a full day.

Batting out the day is a big improvement after the catalogue of first innings disasters. At least this time the collapse was against the second new ball not the first.
250 is probably a prettt good score on day 1 at the Riverside.
Forecast for tomorrow afternoon and Thursday is not great.

decent enough performance today and Derby bowled pretty well too. Rampaul, Palladino and Reece all bowled exemplary lines and forced us to defend well, which by and large we did. Even van Beek bowled a tidy first spell, so to go in to lunch only 2 down was most encouraging.

there were of course some seat of the pants moments. Lees could easily have been run out after a mix up with Bangers. he gave up and sauntered back to his crease knowing that either the fielder at short cover would hit and he'd be out, or miss and give him a reprieve. Fortunately he missed, and missed wildly. It was quite surreal watching him nonchalantly return to the crease. To an outsider there would have been no indication of any alarm. Harte flashed at a short one, gave it a tickle, only for second slip to let it burst through his hands for 4 runs to long stop, accompanied by a howl of pain.

Bangers was playing a simple defensive shot when the ball hit his pad, so he can't have any complaints. I think Rampaul was bowling a lot of slower balls and cutters, because the batsmen seemed to be mis-timing a lot of his deliveries and in addition to the capt, he picked up the wickets of Burnham and Raine with the new ball in exactly the same fashion. All innocuous deliveries, all playing forward defensive's, all rapped on the pads.

It was very irritating watching Trevaskis, on 40, lob a simple delivery to deep mid wicket 2 overs before the arrival of the new ball. Needless really, but both he and Burnham were trying to get full value from the spinners. We paid the price for that moment of rashness as we lost 2 wickets to the first 3 deliveries of the new ball

Still..... we batted out the day..... woo hoo!

the suspicion is that the afternoon will be a wash out, but I'm hoping that a bit of stop start cricket in the morning will help us. I doubt that we'll be batting for long first thing

Yep. Eckersley might need to open his shoulders- 5 not out in about 80 minutes! He looks like a good player though, every time I've seen him he has looked pretty solid but always batting with the tail so not much of a chance to play a significant innings.

If the forecast is correct there will be poor weather this afternoon and on day 4.

No rain yet and Harte has a couple of wickets. 128/4. It must be bowler friendly conditions so we need to press home the advantage and not let them off the hook.

7th wicket pair have already added 40. If the weather allows time for a result I'd back Derbyshire if we don't have a substantial first innings lead so these last 4 wickets need to go down for no more than 50 runs imo
It'll be a miracle if we don't have a second innings collapse!
