but it took 5 mins to wipe it out... which is the problem, of course.

it took 4 mins to get the ref to the monitor

both players injured in the collision which perhaps mitigates things, but I doubt that had much to do with the time it took. No need for the VAR officials to worry about the players... it gives them a natural break to review

and, of course, (as very quickly happened in cricket) there is now no need for the ref to make a judgement call because VAR can advise on whether there's a case for giving/ruling out. I reckon without VAR, refs give the keeper the benefit 9 times out of 10. She still has to make that call, of course, but now she has 5 mins to decide. Meanwhile the game comes to a standstill

Japan gave England a big scare in the second half of their match, and they are tearing the Dutch to pieces tonight. If only they could score one of these gilt edged chances that they are creating. Dutch keeper has had to make great saves, Japan have hit the woodwork twice, blazed over, blazed wide. The European champions have absolutely no idea how to combat this.
