The reason England were nuts to leave Plunkett out in those three (losing !) games in the round robin. The stats don't lie : he takes wickets in the middle overs. Often the key ones.

Is it coincidence they've won all the matches he's played in ? Not just down to having Roy back , though that is what got all the publicity.

Excellent review, and England needed that wicket.

Depends now if New Zealand can use that platform Kane built. If they kick on to the predicted 280 it will be a good platform. But he ate up a lot of deliveries - it could have cost NZ if England can bag a couple more here and keep a lid on.

Athers said earlier that Erasmus is the best umpire on the list. Which might indicate a problem.

No English umpires allowed of course, which cuts a few options out.

I think only CDG has a SR over 80 for NZ in this WC (apart from Guptill who's out and only just above 80).

They're not shooting for 300 though. Right or wrong they've decided to get 260 or so and defend that - which is often possible at Lord's .

Though Plunkett is now undermining that plan further...

Truth is NZ don't have the batting to blaze away from the off (except Guptill , of course. And he's gone ) You have to play to your strengths.
