How often is it that the spinner is put on as an afterthought in these situations and they take wickets (often I think).

These two still going at four an over.

It feels like these 2 have stabilized England, and should be starting to push on.

The pitch is not impossible to score runs on. NZ proved that , albeit it has got slower and stickier as the day has gone on.
It is certainly difficult for free stroking. So what England should have done is look to take a few more singles rather than throw a couple of major wickets to frankly ridiculous swipes.

If these two stay in the chase will need a fast last ten...but it won't be out of the question. The big problem is the careless loss of wickets through unnecessary panic has left them with not a lot of batting in reserve...
