is a wash out

should be a washout on Friday too

at least that means that England will have to be particularly bad to fall 2 behind in the series

Well, Paine wins the toss and bowls. Should be an interesting day, whatever happens.

Interesting choice. I guess with the four days, they figure if they want the win, they might need to bowl England out cheaply and bat once. And there is the psychological advantage of England having collapsed twice in the last game, and the covers on the last couple of days.

Time to see what England are made of - are they actually going to compete in this series, or is it going to be embarrassing? Even more so than usual...

Roy lasts as long as expected. Not watching but I'm sure it was a good length ball swinging away he tried to paddle sweep out the ground

Far more conventional way for an opener to get out - but he should have left it.

goakies, Shane Warne is an annoying voice to have interrupting my cricket watching.

State your opinion on any thing, Warne, justify it if you must. That's twice now, time to leave the subject alone.

off to the expected good start

I see Australia won the toss and opted to bowl.... and why wouldn't they? Why take time out of a potentially short game by scoring an unnecessary 200 runs batting first?

next question... with Denly at the crease how soon will Paine bring Lyon on? Very soon, I reckon

14th over

A good test for Denly's defensive technique. He had to resort to getting the sweep out in the last test... something I always associate with tail enders. He's had a week and a half to practice and I reckon most of the time will have been spent trying to defend against Lyon.

once Denly is out, Lyon may very well be taken straight out of the attack

Spot on. He's already had a big appeal turned down leading to a failed review by Paine.
Before the toss all of the commentators on TV were saying it was clearly bat first! Then Paine opted to bowl and Root said he would have done the same! Cue lots of muttering from Warne about Ricky Ponting bowling in the second test in 2005. He must have told that story about 10000 times.
