The most relevant factor is the number of Surrey players now centrally contracted- Burns,Roy, T & S Curran with Pope inevitably to follow them. 5 Surrey players who were regulars in their team are now effectively employed by England meaning Surrey can't release any more regulars of last season's squad.

Seemingly his wife is American, they intend to reside in America once his county playing career is over, and he thinks it is not beyond the realms of possibility that he might still be capable of playing for them once his 3 years residency is up, and if he isn't, then he'd like to get involved with the team in some other capacity.

I'm not sure how long his Surrey contract has left to run. Is he mid thirties now?

He's 35. He's owned property in America and been involved in promoting and coaching there for a number of years.

There was an interview where he mentioned doing some new fitness training in order to prolong his career. Looked on the Sorry website and his contract runs until the end of 2021.

MCC have decided that they will keep this year's membership subscriptions...... a paltry £7.8 million regardless of whether there is any cricket this year. Tim Bostock also revealed that the MCC aren't too worried about members resigning in disgust because there is a 22 year waiting list for membership

That has to be another indication that our finances are in goid shape. Quite surprised to read that Somerset aren't in as healthy a position as expectedl. That said I can understand sone counties reluctance- full expenditure but little or no revenue although if this 2m rule goes ( and it sounds as if it will be gone by early July to aid the hospitality sector) it should help.
