Cricinfo suggesting recreational cricket might get the green light soon. But since both the government and the ECB seem to be moving at a snail's pace, who knows what soon actually means!
Earlier in the week I was reading a newspaper article about the pubs etc reopening. Apparently there were two plans- one a more cautious approach and the other less so. I was wondering why they opted for the cautious one...but they didn't! Amazingly the plan they're implementing was the riskier of the two proposals. No wonder things are taking an absurd length of time to return to normal.

If tge friendly is behind closed doors it suggests the opening games at least will also be played in empty grounds....as opposed to the virtually empty grounds of every other season!

You have your wish
From cricinfo

In preparation for the official start of the season, Durham and Yorkshire have announced they will contest a two-day red-ball warm-up at Emerald Headingley on July 27 and 28, behind closed doors, and with a live stream for club members. Last week, Surrey and Middlesex confirmed their own plans for a similar fixture at the Kia Oval.

Understood. It's a known fact that technical know-how is inversely proportional to advancing age. I'm sure your grandchildren will be very patient in guiding you through the process.

All-rounders is an area Yorkshire were already short of before Bresnan left. Just Willey, Thompson, Waite and Fisher on the books.

Willey is likely to be involved with England and generally bats top of the order. Thompson is not particularly quick, Fisher is injury prone. Waite has potential to fill the Bresnan void, but will end up being hampered with tail enders who can not hold a bat.

I can see Yorkshire's logic. Internationals come back to the parent club demanding and receiving a huge salary but as their career wanes won't accept a lesser contract. So in step the wealthier clubs who satisfy their inflated demands.
Replacement may make a lesser contribution short term but long term it's the right decision.

I think the squad age is another factor.

Lyth, Ballance, Malan, Patterson are at the other side of 30 as well as Bresnan. All four will be sure starters in the Championship, all three batsmen likely to start in this years Blast.

Assuming First Class Cricket will be played, there won't be relegation so the rookie pros will have a free pass to establish themselves.

There's certainly going to be a lot of squad rotation. According to the Telegraph T20 is commencing August 28th. That allows 27 days to fit in 5 4day games.
