Shpageeza Cricket League

Postby The Professor » Tue Oct 08, 2019 10:30 pm

Afghanistan have relaunched this tournament after having a year off in 2018.

All 6 teams have played now.

Mis Ainak won the first match today beating Boost by three runs. Emerging international star, Yamin Ahmadzai, got 4 wickets to restrict Boost to 153.

In the afternoon match, Speen Ghar lost to Amo despite a half century from 16 year old Asif Musazai. He smashed 50 off 42 balls, which included 2 sixes and 2 fours but the next highest batsmen got a mere 22 as SG fell 18 runs short of Amo's total of 162.

Kabul, who played yesterday, top the table.

Band-e-Amir play Mis Ainak tomorrow whilst Kabul play Speen Ghar.

Band-e-Amir reached the final today - beating Kabul in the second Qualifier.

It was a huge scoring game with 447 runs split between the two teams - but Band-e-Amir's 225 for the loss of just two wickets was too much for Kabul.

Imran Janat's 115* was the most impressive feat of the day as his second wicket partnership became the highest in SCL history. They meet Mis Ainak in tomorrow's final.

This year's competition started up again today with Mis Ainak beating Band-e-Amir.

Usman Ghani top scored with 79 for B-e-A but was given no support as they fell one run short of the required total in a thrilling opening match.

36 year old Karim Sadiq showed that age ain;t nothing but a number by opening his account this year with a five-fer against Amo. After getting 150-6, Speen Ghar limited Amo to just 101.

In the other match Boost beat Kabul by 57 runs to take the lead on the table thanks to NRR.

Kabul had the beating of Mis Ainak this morning - largely thanks to Noor Ali Zadran who got 61 before being Mankad-ed by Dawlat Zadran.

Never a popular move.

It was Kabul's first win of the competition.

In the other match Band-e_Amir beat Boost to claim their first win. A

As of yet no team has won twice. Speen Ghar will hope to remedy that tomorrow against Mis Ainak

Despite figures of 3-17, Abdul Wasi could not stop Band-e-Amir from overturning Amo's 142-5.

They comfortably did so with 3 overs left.

In the other match Mis Ainak beat Speen Ghar.

The two winning teams today are joint top of the table with two wins and a loss each.

Caught both games today.

The first was standard T20 fare. Tamim Surkhorodi (born in 2001 - ridiculously) top-scored with 79 for Speen Ghar and helped his team to 175-3. Boost could not compete and fell 5 runs short.

The second game saw Kabul go absolutely huge. Their 223-5 is the highest score so far in this years competition. Much like Speen Ghar, Kabul led from the front with captain Rahmanullah Gurbaz getting 99 from 50 balls. Interestingly he is only the third player ever to be run out on 99 in T20 cricket. The other two were Virat Kohli in the IPL and Marcus Stoinis in the BBL. Amo got no where near and handed Kabul a 61 run win.

Four teams have now won 2 and lost 1 and are drawn at the top. Boost and Amo sit at the bottom of the table.

Today's second game followed the same mould as yesterday's with a big performance by an opener - where it differed was that it did not lead to a win. Mis Ainak's Mohammad Shahzad got 106* for his team. Mis Ainak ended on 188 for 2. Boost were pushed to the limit but sealed the game with a final ball four.

Band-e-Amir beat Speen Ghar in the other game to take the outright lead with three wins and a loss.

Boost beat Amo to pip Speen Ghar to the knock out phase of this competition.

After table toppers, Kabul beat Speen Ghar - all Boost had to do was beat the bottom placed team. This they did comfotably. First by limiting Amo to 122 and second by knicking that off in 11 overs. Karim Janat was the highest scorer with 64*.

It's one of those funny knock out procedures now. Table-toppers Kabul play Mis Ainak with the winner going straight through to the final. The loser will take on the winner of the eliminator between Band-e-Amir and Boost.

Was all a bit inevitable today.

After 1st placed Kabul beat 2nd placed Mis Ainak to get into the final, 3rd placed Band-e-Amir knocked out 4th placed Boost. Old timer Ashgar Afghan was the archetypal safe pair of hands as his 95 off 36 balls helped B-e-A get to a huge total of 232-6. Boost had zero chance of getting to this and, int he end, it wasn't even competitive as B-e-A won by 76 runs.

Tomorrow Mis Ainak play Band-e-Amir to decide the second finalist.

As is so often the case with these funky qualification comps....second beat third so the final is a replay of the qualifier.

Band-e-Amir put up a good show thanks to Usman Ghani's 64 which helped BEA to 178. With 5 overs left it looked like an upset was on the cards but Mis Ainak were just playing and then went up a gear to go through to tomorrow's final.

After the 3-Day Tournament and the One-Day Tournament comes the Afghanistan Domestic T20 competition that plays out over the next month.
The largest winners of today’s opening two games were Speen Ghar who beat Mis Ainak by 8 wickets with 8 balls remaining. Chasing 139, captain and opener Usman Ghani led from the front with a 54 ball 66. When he fell in the 17th over, Speen Ghar needed just 11 runs to seal their opening victory.

In the other fixture Kabul beat Band-e-Amir by 6 wickets with 34 balls remaining. The bowling of Azmatullah Omarzai was influential; his 3-16 saw BEA all out just 120 on the board. Kabul needed just 14.1 overs to chase that down.

I have been rather distracted from this tournament by my exclusive coverage of the Sri Lankan Major Clubs Limited Overs Tournament, but as that draws to a finale this weekend, we can turn our attention back to Afghanistan.

Boost are clearly the team to beat. Not only are they undefeated in their first four games but they are also doing it with ball and bat. Their second game saw them strangle Amo to 96-9 from their 20 overs whilst in their third game they put 173 against Hindukush before getting them out for 121. Boost also boast the highest run scorer and most prolific wicket taker in the forms of Hashmatullah Shahidi ( 194 @ 97, HS – 58*) and Zia-ur-Rehman (10w @6.30 Best figures of 3-9).

Away from the behemoth that is Boost, there have been some stand out individual performances from other clubs. Second place Speen Ghar boast the highest individual score of 83*, provided by Najbullah Zadran in their comprehensive win over new boys Pamir. As of yet there has only been one fivefer in the competition, courtesy of Amo who gilled his boots against Hindukush in a tight match that went down to the last ball. It is Amo’s solitary win in the tournament with only Pamir below them. =
