If I understand it correctly, Bairstow is not in the squad for the first 2 tests and Buttler is returning home after the first test, so I guess Foakes has to play in test 2 at least

I was a bit surprised to see Pope in the starting XI. I thought he was still injured, or still under an injury cloud. When Buttler heads home, would they give Pope the gloves? Is that why he's playing at 6 here? England do have a history of throwing the gloves to a batsman in preference to a wicket keeper

I dont know if its because he woke up at 3am, but he keeps on mumbling like hes struggling to get his words out. Then occasionally adds cringe worthy emphasis on certain words that makes it sound like hes drunk, trying to be dramatic.

Indeed. He'd surely have known. In fact they reviewed it, then it appeared like Sibley started to walk off to begin with.

I suppose that if it had been close there might have been a chance of an umpire's call on the ball hitting the leg stump, in which case they'd have kept the review, so perhaps they felt it was worth the risk

Well it is certainly revealing when an ex skipper tells you test cricket isnt about talent, and just about "strength of character" as I think he put it.

Probably why we ended up with so many horrendous technical bats being annihilated to test standard cricket
