Game moving along rapidly this morning. India's last four added very little (only Pant really laying bat on ball !) and England's reply appears to be heading straight over a cliff...

Root was due a fail some time I guess. Mis-hit a sweep for the first time in ages and followed the openers back off at 23/3.

Certainly looks that India's 329 is going to be plenty , as the pitch is giving the bowlers a lot of encouragement and likely to get worse.

India well on top on this wicket which is tough to bay against spinner. The spin is good and bounce is also there on some balls.

England at 39/4 needing 290 more runs to break even. Even a 70 run lead on this wicket will be an advantage. Without contribution from Joe, other batsmen have struggled to settle let alone s ire a significant knock.

To win from this position, England players need to play at their best potential.

Looks like this test will end in 4 days imo.

Ben bowled by Ashwin for 18. Had no clue their about the length. Spun nicely away from the bat to knock off the stump. The bat wasn't anywhere close to the ball. Fails to cover the ball by body as well as bat. Poor batting that. Tailender like dismissal.

well this is turning into a right dogs dinner for England. I have to say that India have been really good in the field. If England were a bit unlucky in the first innings with a clutch of half chances that just dropped short or just evaded the fielder, India have converted their half chances. Excellent work.

There's absolutely no need for India to even think about the follow on.... they could easily bat all day tomorrow (if England let them) and still have 2 full days to bowl England out.

Disagree. Reckon that was an excellent piece of bowling . Sure , Stokes might have played it better ; but that's true of almost every dismissal. Easier from behind a keyboard.

No follow on...saved by a whisker. I see opinions are divided on whether they'd have enforced it (I would have , for the record. Can't speak for Kohli) All academic now.


Good knock by Foakes. Sensible batting. Ashwin terrific , as was Pant. Axar a useful debut effort and the seamers did as much and more than could be expected from them.

India so far ahead it doesn't really matter how they bat. But perhaps England can improve on the first innings bowling effort.
