If India innings is anything to go by, Sharma lost the swing around the first 10 overs being completed. Although now the lights are on, and England's seamers are swing specialists, maybe they can get movement to continue

Not sure England got knocked over in the first innings for anything near to this in UAE. By memory it was damage in the second innings, and that was to a guy clearly chucking, so even if they did, its mitigated.

5th lowest completed innings score for England batting first since WWII. Weirdly, 3 of those are in Joe Root's captaincy era (58 all out Auckland 18,85 all out v Ireland at Lords, today).

Other than that the Oval test in 1948, most famous for being the game Bradman was bowled out for a duck and his average sunk to merely 99.94 instead of 100. I guess a team being bowled out for 52 and then Bradman scoring a duck shows you that werent exactly a road.

I distinctly remember the picture of Ajmal in the English press bowling with about a 50 degree bend in his arm. England were destroyed by the illegal arm ball too, so its like faulting a batsman for being bowled out by a fast bowler delivering 12 yards away...null and void

In fact, the mark measured by the ICC was merely 40 degrees. I remember commenting here at the time it was so visually obvious, the umpires were a joke for letting him bowl. Cant beileve he got away with it for 180 test wickets. His career record should really be removed from the books

But surely you want the labs to say it was legal or not.

Always worth a review because you get them back, but unless the umpire gives it, always going to struggle.

That's what I meant by the excuse.

The degree of difficulty of facing Akmal throwing doosras on spinning pitches must exceed that faced by any other England side v spin. Maybe uncovered pitches come close.

He only got barred after he ruined an ICC fundraising game!

And then all the doosra bowlers got banned.

Which says to me they were all breaking the rules always.
