Root very lucky there - all England's complaining about the umpires is working to put pressure on them. That looked like pad onto bat and then back onto pad but umpire gives it not out. Huge moment in the game

How? As Swann just said, on one angle it looks like bat, on one it looks like pad. There is zero way you can make an informed decision, so the on field umpire has to stand.

Root told Stokes it was pad first and it was clear on the replay too. Swann says these things even themselves out so he's pretty clear Root was out as well. Awful from the third umpire imo -

I can see that there's an argument for it staying on the pitch. But if the third umpire had to make a decision, he made the logical one. There was no spike until the ball got to the bat, and given you can see it hit the bat, it must have been bat/pad together or bat first.

Hot spot would have been useful.

I think its umpires call on leg stump, so always worth it.. you get the review back. Thats one thing teams dont seem to do well. He was saying he didnt hit it to Root, so maybe thought it was more adjacent, but I think he decided to review only after the counter ran out
