He's been playing Grade cricket in Australia. Smuggle him back in Bangers' luggage?

Oh dear! I think we are playing Warwickshire at the end of April...I wonder if the terms of the deal are that he must be selected for that game.

Aren't loans like in football where you aren't allowed to play against your parent club?

I'm not sure but it would make sense.

The Times has a story about the cancelled Durham University game - the police refused to allow it to go ahead because the Racecourse is surrounded by public footpaths so it would have been difficult to stop people walking in to watch!
Ludicrous!

This copper must still live in the 1940s when large crowds watched County cricket. And again there's no access to the ground from the riverside footpath.Seems to be some hidden agenda.
Is Colin Graves now in charge of Durham Constabulary?

well, he's got a job on his hands. I suppose the good thing for him is that this is another filler season in which to try and bed himself in. Assuming (big assumption to make.... maybe even a dangerous one) things don't get worse, 2022 will be reset at 2020 and promotion will be back on the table. That's when it'll matter

Essex will be far too good for us, Notts and Warks should be far too good for us, maybe Worcs too (definitely Worcs too if we're unlucky enough to have to face Moeen), so we might only have the 2 Derbyshire games to try and grab a win.... although that'll probably take Matt Critchley not playing, of course, in which case the season might be a baptism of fire for the prodigal son.

Still..... you never know.

Although we will know by 11.30 on the 8th April.... probably. After that there is the outside chance that Coughlin and Poynter get dropped and then we might have a chance to improve. Sadly it will probably take them 2 or 3 games to realise that those two are the millstones that will drag us down, but it might take the return of Bancroft for them to grasp that nettle

I think DF that the loan signing of Thompson will have ramifications for both Coughlin and Poytner. Presumably Thompson wouldn't have agreed to come, nor Warks sanctioned it, unless given some assurances about playing time. That means 5 batters with Eckersley at 6. Potts has been opening the bowling in pre-season, Carse is highly rated, meaning Coughlin is the most likely to drop out.
V Notts I'd go
Jones
Lees
Borthwick
Bedingham
Burnham
Eckersley
Raine
Carse
Thompson
Potts
Rushworth

Big game for Jones, because there's Young to fit in there somewhere in the second match. He's had an excellent pre-season, but this will be a big step up. He has 106 FC runs from 4 matches and he scored 82 of them against Notts last year
