I think it's entirely possible that the management believe that Mr Ned is a better batsman when he hasn't got to worry about the gloves. Now if they do, I would argue that the mere fact of taking the captaincy away has exactly the same effect.... probably more effect, so I'd be happy for him to take the gloves to facilitate incorporating a spinner into a 5 man attack.

That being said, the Sister's glovework has looked pretty solid and he does have some batting credit in the bank from the Essex game, so it's a bit harder to argue against his inclusion in these early rounds

Don't think you'll lose! This is more one sided than the 2010 Boxing Day Test.

Been for a walk and was once again expecting to cringe when I checked the score. A pleasant surprise so far!

True. His keeping has been excellent and the attack in this game should be potent enough not to need the extra bowler.
The Warwickshire commentator said Poynter played a game for them- something I'd either forgotten or didn't know.

I remember the game because comment was made in his outstanding keeping in that game. We signed him on that performance -dear me,he's now in his 8th season with us.

Thanks for that. 8 season, amazing.

Couldn't really have gone any better today, the annoying late order partnership was the only downside. Weather forecast isn't good but at least the game is at a fairly advanced stage after day 1.

Shows how more disciplined our batting is. Time was when Warks would have been batting again at close-with a lead.

Lees
Bancroft
Borthwick
Bedingham

looks like lots of regular top order runs in that line up, something that we haven't been able to rely on in recent seasons

I went back over some of the live streaming. I was surprised how many of the Warks batsmen were clean bowled. There didn't look to be that many demons in the pitch

Also interesting to note how the ball pretty much died on the batsmen from every bowler, except Woody. His deliveries flew through to the keeper high up. He must have been bowling pretty quick. He might have only picked up 2 wickets but he made plenty of opportunities for Raine. I can only think that Ben's deliveries stayed lower than expected for batsmen who'd just had the ball whistling past their ears the over before

Yeah, a great double act today. Everything seems set for a win unless the weather prevents it but there's always a feeling something could go wrong.
Very tight group- the commentators were talking about how this is the one group where teams ar the bottom aren't cut adrift because there have only been 3 wins ( 2 by Warwickshire) and no side has lost more than 1 game.

weather doesn't look great, in truth. Could be a stop start day today while we're batting, then dry and bright tomorrow when they're batting..... what could go wrong?

Poor forecast for Sunday, so if we're in a commanding position by then, I'd expect it to rain all day. If, on the other hand, we've managed to stuff it all up and we're trying to hang on, it will be dry and sunny all day.... hey ho

Commentators going on about "the new heavy roller rule", implying it's significant but haven't, as far as I'm aware, explained what the change is. Anyone able to clarify?

I'm not entirely sure but Martin Emmerson said something about a heavy roller being used on the final day of games. That's if I heard him correctly.
