I'm of the " no catch up overs permitted on the final day" belief.

I thought so too. Could still be an interesting day, wonder what the plan will be for the declaration? Need to come out all guns blazing in the morning . Bowling them out in a couple of sessions is a realistic- if unlikely- prospect.

I think the guns were on friendly fire :d'oh:

3 wickets before lunch so the second part of the morning went better than the first- suppose it could hardly have been worse.
Should have been 4 down - straightforward catch put down by Coughlin.

Need a couple of wickets, draw looking likely at this stage- whereas Notts are going to win.

when I left Harlow Carr we had them 40-3 or something like that and I thought maybe the game was on, but a couple of hours later and only the draw remains

and as well as being hopeless against spin, we appear to be toothless against obdurate batting.

I know I keep bashing on about it, and have been bashing on about it for years, but it's our lack of a quality spinner, someone who can run amok on day 4, instil some panic into opposition lower orders and turn draws into wins, that keeps on haunting us. Harmer would have run through this lot in short order, leaving Essex to knock off 30 runs. We haven't had a spinner who could do that since Blackwell left

I know nothing really, so if I can see it why can't the Durham management?

ah well.... we shook on it early

20 overs and 4 wickets we had a chance, but 45 overs and 1 wicket later there was no point continuing

despite the weather taking more than a full day out of the game we had a chance today and didn't have the tools

or maybe not

Leics survive about 25 overs with one wicket remaining to pull off an unlikely looking draw

Possibly they can but it's not easy to find one. However, we aren't going to win many games with a 1 dimensional attack like in this game nor will we develop a spinner if we either select one and don't bowl him, Trevaskis,or don't select him, Drissel. As you say,DF, the problem has been with us long enough.

Yes, absence of Carse makes the attack one dimensional with medium pacers struggling when the conditions don't suit them. Drissel was mentioned in one of the season previews as being one to watch. We'd almost certainly have won if so much time hadn't been lost to the weather but , after the early wickets, it still feels like a missed opportunity.

Not so sure Carse's extra pace, nor any other type of bowler, will make much difference in sluggish April pitches. Bangladesh skittled in 2nd test, North said at forum Petersen would fly over as soon as it was finished,so hopefully he'll be here in good time for Thursday.
