I'm back home

I have a golden rule for T20. When I start getting angry at Durham's incompetence then I come home. I've been watching this sort of shambolic performance for too many years to bother waiting around for a miracle to happen

Lyth and Allen whacked us for 3 and 4 boundaries an over en route to 79-0 after 6 overs. We spent the first 3 overs swinging... mostly missing, very occasionally hitting and then mostly off top edges that looped over the keeper standing up.... and the next 2 dobbing singles because it was the only way we could score runs. I think we scored 4 runs an over in half the PP overs, chasing 200+

Our bowling was dreadful, our fielding atrocious for all but about 5 overs. I lost track of the times we misfielded Yorks 4 runs. Even when the ball went straight up it always landed safely between fielders. We bowled 12 overs of spin, which I sort of approve of, unfortunately we bowled 12 overs of terrible spin which Yorks gleefully hammered out of the ground.

K-C spanked one ball dead straight right into the Bannatynes car park. The car park was chocker, but miraculously the ball landed smack in the middle of the only empty parking space around.

Borthwick took 3 wickets including 2 in 2. The first one was actually a decent delivery that Allen thought he could go back to and spank for his 50, but missed. The other 2 were drag downs that the batsmen smashed straight down the throat of Bushnell at long off.

I nearly didn't go tonight, because I was feeling pretty bushed and the sky was getting dark, but I was tempted by the thought of a chicken gyros

I should have saved myself 9 quid and a lot of grief


Bumper crowd tonight.... as usual they'll end up leaving thoroughly disappointed or very drunk and in no fit state to give a toss

we've only had 20 years to work it out and we still haven't *modded* managed to

and why didn't we retain Tye once we knew Bedders was going to be out? At least he actually knows how to bowl in T20. It was surely even more important to retain him once it became apparent that Turner wasn't going to be able to bowl with his dislocated shoulder. Perhaps we decided we were so good that we didn't need him

Oh I'm sorry... Bushnell didn't come at 8 after all... the scorecard was ammended... he's come in at 9, with another batsman, Borthwick, coming in at 10, while 3 bowlers come in at 6, 7, and 8

Only 2 things impressed me about Durham tonight and both were in the field

the first was a terrific catch from Bushnell who lost the ball completely in the lights, then recovered and caught the ball on the slide, feet first so the ball had to hit his body if it slipped through his fingers (which it did, but stuck on his belly)

the second was the run out. The batsman thought he'd put the ball past the diving bowler Sowter (we all did, in truth) and set off for the run, but somehow Sowter managed to grab it and hurl it to the keeper from the sprawling prone position, and Robinson turned and whipped off the bails at full stretch just before the batter got back. Terrific work from the pair of them

We're just turning the ball over now, trying to get to 140

this has been an absolute caning

and if Yorks hadn't lost their heads and thrown a load of wickets away trying to hit every single ball out of the ground after the first wicket went down, we'd probably have conceded 230+ not 201 and lost by 100 runs

I think the damage was done in the first part of their innings, unless we had matched their power play start and had one of the top 4 batting deep I just don't think we have the quality down the order. Too few specialist T20 batsmen.

Tye is ill according to Turner who reckoned 160 was par!

well that's fair enough. Presumably he's still around which is very sensible

Turner said he should play on Sunday...because they dont "think" the illness is covid! He looked a bit sherpish however so who knows what is going on.
