As AC says, that's practically a second XI playing. No Bairstow, Hales, Livingstone, Root, Archer, Woakes, Moeen, Rashid, etc.. While Australia are more-or-less full strength.

With Morgan gone and Roy seeming to be in decline, there are places to play for though.

Having said that, Vince and Malan are probably yesterday's men too. Maybe they've picked people who happen to be in Australia anyway.

Vince goes though. Aussies well on top, but not beyond the reach of some moderate batting heroics.

well even though Stokes doesn't want to play ODI's and even though it would probably be terrible for his mental health given his recent history, I can understand why there are calls from pundits for him to start playing again. England looking well set after a terrible start when Vince fell, RRR was 5 ish, certainly below 6 with plenty of time in the game. This match was tailor made for him to come out and take the game deep, from where he usually prevails. Instead, England players queue up to throw their wickets away to the spinner, as they so often do, and in the end they lose convincingly.

What they've got is pretty good, but have to rebuild.

I wouldn't be taking too much notice of these games. Sure some of the fringe players might want to show up - but they are only fringe players for a reason so probably shouldn't expect earth shaking performances from them - and I think most of those who just played in the t20 WC are somewhat less than fully committed to this "series".

Looking at the ages of the white ball regulars there will be some rebuilding soon enough - but the next 50 over WC is close enough now I'd imagine most of the usual suspects will be turning up for it. Whether Stokes will be persuaded to make a brief comeback to the format will be an interesting subject for speculation as we proceed...

Roy does seem to be in the horrors. Possible he is past his sell by date ... but imagine he will still remain in consideration unless and until it is clear he's done or someone else makes an inarguable case. Jacks and Duckett might be two candidates worth keeping an eye on.

Roy has an ODI average of over 40, so he's not easy to discard.

He's had a very bad run. So bad that even a period away from the game has done nothing to help him reset.

Still..... he does have one more game to try and climb out of the hole he's in

Holy bananas, Anderson's 20th anniversary of his international debut is on Saturday.

Can't be too many players with longer active international career spans. The Little Master, obviously, with 24.

The most crazy thing about Anderson is, he didnt really solidify his place in the side until 2009 ish by memory, so in an era where test cricket came thick and fast, he probably ended up playing 150 plus tests in only 13 years... which considering he's a bowler who bowls a lot of overs, is a testament to his personal fitness and work ethic. Its made even more surprising on the fact that around the 2006/07 Ashes, his bowling style was causing him massive injury woes, and there was even talk of retirement in his mid-20s due to back problems.

Doesnt feel like he needs to quit just yet either, but in fairness he might of had enough and call it a day soon

I thought it was 2008 - he and Broad came in in New Zealand when Hoggard and Harmison were dropped, and I think he played most tests since that point. But I'm splitting hairs - the point is well made.
