I certainly do not approve of Bangladesh appealing for that - very cynical taking advantage of rules. But apparently the 4th umpire has claimed that in fact Matthews was already in breach of the time limit before the helmet glitch was discovered. So technically quite correctly given out , and safety issues not a consideration.

except that the BBC put a stop watch on the whole incident and from the catch being taken to Mathews attempting to take his guard took 1 minute 54 secs, so either the BBC can't read a stop watch, the 4th official is talking out of his hat, or there are different interpretations on what determines 'being ready'

Same footage is all over the internet from many sources, so its quite clear the third umpire is talking nonsense. The footage also shows Mathews was out to the pitch in good time after the fall of the wicket, no unusual delay in him leaving the bench, etc. Wicket goes down, he is straight up, straight to the wicket. Arrives at the wicket and goes straight to take his guard.... if the ICC want to double down and tell us this dismissal was right, then put simply, any batsman who wants to now take guard is going to be given timed out, because the footage shows that 2 minute time frame is eaten up with not a lot to spare, even if a batter isn't messing around.
