Agreed. I thought we should have played an extra batter. Ackermann's absence unfortunate because he could have provided the extra spin option.

After our pre match conversation over whether this would be a Bunsen, it took only 5 overs before Somerset decided to switch to spin

Robbo falls, leaving us on 128-3. Somerset had a 4th wicket stand of nearly 200 and so, given that we only have 5 batters in the side, we need to do something similar or we're going to concede a hefty first innings deficit

Of the 36 overs bowled by Somerset today, 30 of them have been spin

Turner goes early, handing a 3rd wicket to Leach. 148-4 and we're down to Lees and the bowlers to try and make a fist of things.

35 of the 44 overs have been spin, so thank goodness we are excellent at batting against it

Bas run out we aren't helping ourselves and there a better than decent chance of ending up with no batting points to go with our 2 bowling points and the small matter of a 250 first innings deficit

we bowled 62 overs of seam... presumably because we packed the side with extra seamers instead of batters. No doubt we'll say that we selected 5 bat and 2 all rounders, but really we just picked 5 batters

excellent stand between Carse and Raine, adding 100 runs in 30 overs to take us to the close of play, with both of them bringing up fifties. I'm going to hazard a guess and say that Somerset probably haven't taken the new ball and will wait until the morning

Gregory has only bowled 2 overs, so may have picked up an injury. Will that help us? I don't know, but I thought Leach would take a lot more wickets today than he has done, so perhaps it will

That stand rescued what looked like being a disastrous day. Still on the back foot but at least have a chance of saving it.

I'm going to be unduly pessimistic and say that we won't save this game. There is no weather about, we'll probably end up conceding more than the follow on 149, Somerset will probably bat quickly and get us back in after tea tomorrow and rely on a day 4 pitch and their 4 spinners to cause havoc.

I rather think that we misread the pitch when selecting our starting XI

I've actually seen a photo of the pitch before the toss. Yes there was a touch of green on the surface, but there were also 3 repaired patches on the batsman's crease at the end the photo was taken. I imagine that they broke up straight away. I wonder why Turner didn't get a bowl?

I share your pessimism about the result. Seems odd about Turner not bowling.
I think we should be OK regardless of the result here - none of the teams below can win and most if not all could well lose.

Century for Carse, great innings especially given the circumstances- once Raine was out the last 3 only made 8 between them.
7 runs shy of avoiding the follow on but not surprisingly Sonerset haven't enforced it.

I might claim that.

I've been trying to reverse jinx the match since the start of yesterday and that one worked. A shame we couldn't get the 3rd batting point, but tbh we got about a hundred more than I thought we were, so perhaps I'm just being greedy. I always figured that Somerset would choose to bat again, but we nearly took the choice away from them. Excellent stuff from Carse and Raine

Somerset are 3 down, the lead is 292. I guess everyone is waiting to see when Somerset will think they have enough.

How cautious are they? The more cautious, the better for us, of course
