maybe the ECB could market it as a new format, then introduce it as a 5th domestic competition.... cut the boring 4 day stuff down to 3 leagues of 6 with everyone in each league playing each other once

as you say, we had a spinner taking 5fer on the first day and we didn't even bother to bowl any seam on the second.... all with a ball that does *modded* all

I guess this match came down to the toss. Seam bowling exploding off the pitch in the first 2 sessions and spinners bowling into the craters in the last 2 sessions

Somerset back to their old ways. It'll be interesting to see if the spectre of ECB pitch sanctions that they've been trying to avoid for the last 2 seasons will raise its head again. Maybe they just don't care anymore..... if it was good enough for Peter Moores' Lancashire, then it's good enough for us

It's been a hugely disappointing red ball season, for a whole variety of reasons and at the start of the year I was reasonably hopeful of a strong campaign given the signings we made and the really good cricket conditions that the weather has provided this season. Polar opposite to the T20 results

As you say, if results go against us, and I'm not sure they will, we could be second bottom by Friday.... and this was a strong squad that we took to Taunton. It was mostly the bowlers who made runs

Yes, the numerous injuries haven't helped but things haven' but things just haven't clicked. There's a fair chance that those other two games will be draws and think we have both Worcestershire and Yorkshire to play.

well yes, but I don't see injuries as being unfortunate, not when it's been so many players. Something in training or preparation needs to change. I hope they are looking into it and not accepting it

They should be looking into it, I've lost count of the various injuries to bowlers!

Excellent result and the improvement continues.

it needed to, but it does give a bit of hope for next season. Maybe a bit of business needs to be done for the playing staff over the winter.

he's played 3 of our 11 matches and is averaging only slightly more than Ben Raine (the inestimable Ben Raine)

hard to see how this helps Durham..... time to move him on (even though it feels like heresy)?

In what has been a disappointing red ball season, it does rather feel as though in Bedders and Will Rhodes we have left an awful lot of runs lounging around at home
