Fantastic start for Durham reaching 133-1 at lunch...bracewell with only wicket but he also went for plenty too....Essex desperately need breakthroughs this afternoon batsman cruising

Alex lees can't be a million miles away from England selectors thoughts again? Averaging 49 this year at a strike rate of 58.....always seems to score runs.....

Could watch harmer bowl all day long....always makes things happen challenging both edges...Ackerman playing him well at the moment though

Maybe if thain will come back on soon....has a knack of getting wickets when things go slightly flat....tends to try and bang it in...might be worth a go soon

318-8 is not the usual disaster at Chelmsford, but Lees and McKinney aside, we haven't troubled the scorers too much, so it's hard to tell how this one is going. Play finished bang on time, with 37 overs of spin bowled. We only have Parky in the side. Then again, most of the trouble came from Porter, so I guess we wait and see

I hope this is the last season for Bedders. He's been great for the last few years, but his mind has been elsewhere this year, even when his body hasn't. He's only on his 4th CC match, I think and one Century aside in the one day cup he's been a shadow of his usual self. Just not playing enough cricket thanks to his involvement with SA. I think we have enough decent batters in the side now to warrant losing him and replacing him with a good spinner.... we had the right idea a couple of seasons ago with Matt Kuhnemann... that's the kind of quality we need in the side. I like Parky and old George, but they aren't game changers.

Was the first ball run out a catastrophic mix up or was he caught out backing up to a ball hit dead straight?

Decent day but probably should have been better, I'm not convinced about our attack so think we needed 400 plus. Hopefully I'll be wrong- or maybe we will get 400!

We won't know where the balance of power lies until both sides have batted but it strikes me that today was like a lot of previous days - get into a position where we have a chance to gain full control and then surrender the initiative. Having said that I'd have taken 300 plus at the start of the day.

Bedingham ran himself out it was carnage! Shambles! But yes a very good first day play it's still a good score as our batting line up hasn't exactly fired so far this season
