80 million quid spent and in the most parlous position since they last went down. This ex England manager is some boy. No surprise to me that Newcastle lost again. the only surprise is that they scored a goal. Swansea and Bournmouth now have an 8 point cushion with 9 matches to go, and it's 3 to go down from 4 teams.

My prediction............ whoever loses the NE derby (newcastle, btw) will go down with Villa and Norwich... if it's a draw both will go down with Villa

According to The Telegraph McClaren is going to be sacked and replaced by David Moyes. However it's one of those' bet hedging' stories with references to potential stumbling blocks and the basis for the story seems to be that Moyes has expressed interest before and is highly rated by Mike Ashley - whether that endorsement is good or bad news is a matter of opinion!

not sure why anyone would come to take charge of a team in freefall with no time and no resources to make a difference. Not even much chance of a massive 'keep us up' bonus.

One of the commentators on Radio Newcastle made a similar point - he asked why any manager with a decent reputation would risk ruining that reputation by coming to Newcastle.

Think Bellerin did something similar later on and didn't get a second yellow either, well after Dier, he couldn't. Shirt pull was nowhere near as bad, and the rule does mention the word prolonged shirt. Not sure how many seconds constitute prolonged?!

They had Graham Poll in the studio and he was banging on about prolonged shirt pulls, so perhaps a brief hold that doesn't seriously impede the opposing player isn't considered a foul or yellow card.
