What did Dhoni do wrong? Anderson admitted to cursing and pushing and got away scott free. Maybe Dhoni should have just tonked him with his own bat?

it being thrown out had more to do with there being no evidence i think than the ECB pulling strings

I don't even want him banned necessarily. Purely because I don't think I'd be able to take the amount of whingeing and cries of foul play on here and in the British media, if India, by some miracle, managed to beat an Anderson-less England. My issue is with, as Dilbert pointed out, how the entire thing has unfolded. First for the ECB to underplay the incident, before levelling a Level 2 charge against Jadeja as a 'tit for tat', the contradictory testimonies of Stokes and Prior virtually insinuating that Jadeja was guilty of a Level 3 offence, the "counter charge" against Jadeja to be handled before the original charge on Anderson, Jadeja being found "guilty" before the entire issue being swept under the carpet by the Commissioner not even finding either player guilty of even a Level 1 or 2 offence when Anderson has openly admitted to using swear words and threatening to "smash his teeth" (I mean, SERIOUSLY??) and the questions raised by the English media and Captain Weasel over the integrity of Dhoni even terming it as a "tactic" to get Anderson banned. If the Commissioner's verdict is to be believed, you'd be led to think Jadeja and Anderson were exchanging Friendship Day Cards! Doesn't that mean that Stokes and Prior were lying blatantly? Stokes accused Jadeja of pushing Anderson "first" (which basically is a giveaway that Anderson did indeed push Jadeja later) but the English media seem to have completely missed that and are busy vilifying Dhoni and co. How did Boon find Jadeja guilty but the Commissioner didn't? Lots of questions, no answers unfortunately. Its a farce, all in all a successful cover up by the ECB and a successful attempt at vilifying the opposition and not for the first or last time.... :facepalm

Anderson says he pushed Jadeja.

The attitude of the UK press seems to be the event was a trifle, rather than questioning what the actual events were.

I guess in most uk sports, a physical exchange would lead to a lengthy ban if it happpened on the pitch. Of the pitch, within reason it is ignored.

I don't think most people in the uk see it as a big deal.

Personally, I think the things that are out in the open, like Anderson's threats should have lead to punishment, whether or not the truth about the push can be divined. But really, the match ref could have sorted it out.

Lots of speculation. One thing I will say is, if Jimmy had been proved guilty of pushing Jadeja, no English supporter on here would complain, if he had got a ban. I suppose I'm speculating a little there. That said, the whole matter does sound a bit petulant.

Civil court cases are routinely decided on the balance of probability. In those cases, for things like medical negligence, millions of pounds can be levied as compensation.

For the ICC lawyer to turn round and say that losing two matches worth of earnings created a level of evidential proof and certainty "closer to that which is beyond all reasonable doubt" is quite incredible, and really does show the natural inclination to bury this case in England's favour.

So Anderson admits to using unsavoury language and telling him to "f**k off to the dressing room" while pushing him. We have film, twice in the series in fact, of Anderson continuing his verbal assaults, and an umpire testimony that said Anderson ignored his warning to stop. We have an admission, or silence, on a whole host of insulting and aggressive language. We have a seeming admission from the ECB that he had committed an offence before India levelled the charge, but only decided to argue it when a ban was on the cards. We have an English team member who says Jadeja was bat spinning aggressively but didn't notice a push, and another at the same time who had a great view of a push from Jadeja at the same time but no bat waving aggressively. We also have the player in question admitting he wasn't acting in the "spirit of the game" and yet innocent because he was protecting himself, yet his victim apparently turning round in too aggressive a way to be pushed, and then told to f**k off while being told he would have his teeth smashed, is guilty of not acting in the spirit of the game. So its

So in short, if someone pushes you and told you they were going to smash your face in, be aware that they are able to do that in self defence if you turn too quickly to ask them to stop calling you a "f**king *modded*", and sadly that having a bat in your hand after leaving the crease will be construed as wanton acts of violence, and not a simplistic view that you have just been bloody batting.

Sorry, but this absolutely stinks.

shankycricket wrote:Quite amusing to see the English posters on here (bar a few exceptions) trying to brush this under the carpet and pretending that nothing happened when their own team had hypocritically charged Jadeja with a Level 2 offence after initially shrugging off the incident. It just felt like a pathetic 'tit for tat' strategy. To suggest that all is rosey especially after what Anderson has admitted to is frankly laughable. I don't think Jadeja, who earns by the million in the IPL every year would be particularly concerned by a fine of 50% match fee. It was more a case of fighting for the justice, which is why MSD was clearly miffed at his fine. I'm not sure Jadeja is entirely innocent in all this but Anderson getting away without even a fine is frankly ludicrous unless of course this is meant to be an endorsement for further f**king c**t abuses to be spouted on the field. Just looks like a successful, pathetic cover up by the ECB who have flexed their muscles yet again.

Someone else who must have been in that corridor.

shankycricket wrote:As Red said though, I'm not at all surprised by the verdict. This is not the first time an England player or Anderson himself, for that matter, gotten away with such kind of nonsense and it won't be the last.

After all, Broad once got away after deliberately throwing the ball on an opposition player DURING the course of play.
The notion that its only the BCCI that controls the sport is hilarious given ECB's history of getting away with on-field thuggery on numerous occasions in what is, essentially supposed to be, a non-contact sport. Oh Well!

"On-field thuggery" in cricket? That'll be a laugh to everyone who's played or watched Rugby and other sports. The game seems to be played and watched by some "delicate flowers" these days.

I don't know if Anderson was treated leniently because, unlike some here, I was not in the corridor when the incident took place. However, there are plenty of examples where other nations' cricketers seem to have been treated leniently by the authorities.

To be fair, Cook didn't make an issue of the Michael Clarke affair at Brisbane......

Having said that, apparently footage before that shows Anderson telling George Bailey he was going to punch him in the face, so had he made an issue of it, Anderson may not have come out of it as much of a victim. It has been said that Clarke only acted in defence of Bailey to Anderson's mouth.

So in the last three series we have.....

Anderson bumping into Haddin away to Australia purposefully on his follow through....
Anderson telling George Bailey he is going to punch him in the face.....
Anderson arguing with Jaywardene and Sangakarra on the SL tour, with Jaywardene issuing a press conference at the end that was pretty fiery for him, and which was supposed to be motivated by a growing frustration at Anderson's on field conduct
Anderson crossing the line with Billy Bowden at Headingley
Anderson and Jadeja
Anderson and Rahane

We would most likely get the same verdict or if the indian did get a ban, ECB would most likely back track if BCCI threaten to call the tour off.

I don't see any major political involvement here, if anything ECB and BCCI didn't want this case to go forward.

It looks like the judge decided both players were not guilty due to lack of evidence, but not sure I agree with his verdict should have just gave both players level 1 charge and this would be the end of the matter, Surely the Aussie knew giving both players not guilty would not end the matter and it is likely that the indian press would embarrass all parties here.

Can't believe indian fans here are forgetting BCCI are controlling cricket, I doubt ECB would be able to manipulate the verdict and ruin political agreements with BCCI.

There is no BCCI Vs ECB disagreements here, they both are looking at this long term both boards need this series to be a success and BCCI can't exactly call this tour off and ruin the agreement here since they do need England to come to india every 4 years and play a long tour.

You could pretty much link this to the Ashes where both boards usually get along, but the players usually don't.

Both boards are not stupid enough to ruin a very good agreement on two petty arguments, This series is worth around 100-150M pounds to ECB and BCCI needs England to visit india every 4 years for a long tour to keep Star happy.

Seems like a 'storm in a teacup' but if Anderson is being a pain then why don't others simply ignore him. Very effective in my experience.

I think what would have happened, had it been an Indian player starting on an English player, would have been various claims from both sides, charges made at various levels, one of the players would have been fined part of his match fee and then a judge would have been brought in to find them both not guilty.
