Malaysia and Guernsey are promoted to Division 5.

I wonder if Arul Suppiah will be available for Malaysia as he won't be playing any cricket in England in February. If he does then that will strengthen their batting and bowling.

I may be wrong but i think that the relationship between Suppiah and the malaysian board is not a great one.

If Malaysia want to get promoted to Division 4 then the board will have to improve their relationship with Suppiah as he would easily be their best batsman, bowler and fielder. A player of his qualities in a Division 5 team would make them contenders for promotion but if they don't have him then i doubt they will go up the divisions.

On the 27th, the WI Academy team beat UAE by over 100 runs....

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/533453.html

Kyle Corbin made 50 and Devon THomas 40 in the Academy's total of 217, with three wickets each for Sharif Asadullah and Ahmed Raza. The UAE were dismissed for 112, Mustafa topscoring with 27, as pacer McClean took 3-19 and spinner Permaul 3-29.

The Academy side play Afghanistan today, and the West Indies main side plays UAE....

East African leagues

Postby ChrisQ » Sat Oct 01, 2011 7:46 pm

Not sure how much this was covered in the associates thread, but I think it is important enough that it should get it's own thread:

Two new East African leagues kicked off about 6 weeks ago. The East Africa Cup (50 over tournament) and East African Premier League (20 over tournament). They feature the same six teams in each competition: four from Kenya (Nairobi Buffaloes, Kongonis (based in Nairobi), Rift Valley Rhinos (from Nakuru) and Coast Pekee (in Mombasa)) and two from Uganda (Rwenzori Warriors and Nile Knights which both seem to be based in Kampala and Entebbe).

So far it seems that Nile Knights (one of the pre-tournament favourites) is consistent and leading (at number 2) in the standings of both the T20 and 50 over competition. Kongonis (another pre-tournament favourite) is leading in the 50 over competition but the leading team in the 20 over competition is the other Ugandan club, Rwenzori Warriors.

And in the Leagues it seems that a number of Kenyan players from the World Cup won't be playing:

Players who refused contracts shut out
ESPNcricinfo staff
September 6, 2011

The eight cricketers who refused contracts offered by Cricket Kenya now face a bleak future in the game after the board refused to meet with them, and then their local franchises unanimously decided not to pick them again this season.

ESPNcricinfo found out that while the group publicly objected to new-style contracts, they were also trying to force the board to reinstate several of those dumped after the shambolic World Cup earlier this year. They objected to the new deals which partially depended on their on-field performances, and when it became clear the board would not back down, they changed their demands to that of wanting more pay.

But while in the past such tactics usually resulted in a climb-down by the board, this time the nine were outflanked. When the players refused to meet with board officials last weekend and then staged a last-minute boycott of the national league matches, the board offered contracts to up-and-coming players instead.

Faced with that, it seems the players subsequently offered to meet with the board, but that was declined.

"We decided that there wasn't any point in meeting the players," a board official told ESPNcricinfo. "The franchise teams have unanimously decided to suspend the players for the rest of the new competitions for this year which will deprive them of earnings and, as the national squad will be picked on the basis of performances in these events, it will be a difficult few months for these players as a result of their actions."

The hard-line stand will be welcomed by those who have felt the players have had too much power for several years, although the local media, who have backed them almost unquestioningly, are unlikely to be as supportive.

The eight are Alex Obanda, Shem Ngoche, James Ngoche, Nehemiah Odhiambo, Elijah Otieno, Maurice Ouma, Nelson Odhiambo, Alfred Luseno

It isn't an offical Twenty20 international but that score does go on his domestic Twenty20 record.

Nambian openers have done well in T20 this year. Van Der Westhuizen hit 159 earlier this year and now Williams smashed 116 off just 48.
