I have a hunch that this is a hasty decision, and he might want to back away from it when he reflects.

Hasty? I don't think so, this confirms the solid rumours that were around before that he was looking to exit ODIs. He denied them as recently as Feb though, I suppose.

He's been talking up his ODI future all winter. It is at least possible that it may be related to Knightgate? Most on this thread seem surprised, suggesting either KP hasn't been giving any clues, or we are insensitive and unempathetic myopics, unable to pick up on the subliminal message or basic non-verbal cues, making any real communication as problematic as understanding Amazonian dialects....

Missed those solid rumours. Or more likely, feel that so much fanciful conjecture comes out of the media that I've stopped hearing it.

I have a hunch the ECB will opt to get KP back in the T20 side.

Their big concern will be if they do that that more players will go KPs way, Swann has often said he wants the ODI format gotten rid of.

Stop it with the journo thing.

Its the timing that is so odd - he must want to play in the T20 World Cup so why not wait till after that?

OK he saves himself a few ODIS but hes contracted to Surrey so either wont have a rest when they are on.or opts out of playing for Surrey and gets hammered by everyone again.

England have around 15 ODIs this summer, if he has no intention of playing on till 2015 / 13 what would be the point in him taking up that experaince, tiring himself out and risking injury?

Alex i think was in the performance squad. At the domestic level he has proved that he is suited to the shorter formats and is one of the deserving candidate to take advantage of the field restrictions, keeping in mind that Kieswetter has failed in top order especially in sub continent. Whether Alex performs at international level or not remains to be seen.

Can't remember that, but can't rule out I was in the shooting party, as I believed what KP was saying.

Quetion is what he does instead though. Endless one day cricket for Surrey - different treadmill but still a treadmill - or nothing - which will get him critisised. Dont see he gains much from this at all.

@atlasdanced: Smart move by KP to quit while his ODI avg. was still above that of Nick Knight.
