imagine what its gonna be like during the t20 WC later this year if england get dumped out early with all the flak there will be flying around about the ECB refusing to pick him even tho he said he was available

The bit I don't quite understand is that the ECBs argument is based around contracts but come September he won't be under those contractual obligations due to him being downgraded so why is he unable to be selected.

Probably just shooting the breeze on that but it has me stumped.

i really dont like how they are lumping so much blame on the IPL here, and this is coming from someone who isn't a big fan of the IPL, if it was all about the IPL and making money he would have retired from test cricket because the start of the english testsummer is almost always going to overlap

Everything is the IPLs fault, perhaps you're just getting IPL blame fatigue though I'm not if you can retire from criticising it with out giving up all negitive comments about the BCCI though.

I've got a feeling i read somewhere today that Strauss is on a full contract still...?

As Mildred suggests on that Selvey blog, it seems wrong that all the talk is about contracts and money, and pretty much nothing is about his contribution to England ODI cricket. Usually a retirement provokes some kind of overview and a little celebration. KPs has led to the kind of intra-sledging that has always been his burden, might well have made him make this decision, and could shorten whatever time he has left.

Wonder if Michael Henderson has gone to press yet?

Agnew on Five Live extra was much the same, he must have mentioned the IPL and money about twenty times in a five minute peice, nothing on his contribution to the side or any other reasons why he might be doing what he is.

I was reading the Durham CC live match thread when this news broke and the first few comments were people hoping the ECB did the right thing and dropped him from all formats.

I wouldnt be at all suprised if its a publicity stunt and KP wanting attention and people begging him to play.

I expect a U-turn in the next few days.

my point is he shouldnt be able to play t20 if he dosent wanna play 50 over, otherwise it de-values 50 over cricket..

good to see him continuning with tests

Why? They are 2 different formats ffs and we have different captains for it too. :facepalm

I have a sneaky feeling that England's opening bat in the World T20 is still going to be KP:

[*]He will want to play.

[*]He'll still be one of our best players.

[*]He won't be ruled out by contractual terms by then.

Might have a few bob on him being top scorer at a fancy price!
