No, that's completely incorrect. How many times does it need to be repeated that it is for the World Cup? It wouldn't have existed if the ECB didn't ask Aus for an extra ODI tour to practice for the WC.

Yeah , even being very less savvy about media presence his retirement will lead to millions of posts. Ultimately he will be compared to Lara .

How about this for a radical format solution?

Test cricket - remains the same

ODIs has the same batting / fielding / bowling regulations as tests, but is limited to 50 overs per side. Most runs wins!!

T20 - remains the same.

KP's average was 42 and SR 87. That's what needs to be replaced.

The replacement would be doing a good job if he averages somewhere around 40 and striking at 80+ to start with. Trott is better average wise as he is 7 more than KP. But as it often is the higher the average, the lesser the SR. KP balanced the average and SR ratio well. Morgan balances the ratio well, but it will be interesting to see if he can improve a bit proportionately. Also, it is expected that players like Trott , Cook and Morgan improve as they accrue more experience.

Some of the stats of the other England ODI batters:

Cook: 41 and 81
Trott : 49 and 78
Morgan: 38 and 83
Kieswetter: 30 and 92.
Test FL's - 8 , ODI and Tests Combo FL's - 1, ODI World Cup - 1, ODI FL's - 7, ODI and T20i combo FL's - 1 ,
T20 Franchisee FL's - 7, T20i Cup FL's- 1, T20 FL's- 5 , 50 Overs Domestic FL's - 1, 40 Overs Domestic FL's- 1

Wouldnt surprise me if he did give up tests soon. Not much left for him to prove is there?

Here. "KP signed a contract committing to all forms of the game, a commitment he reinforced as recently as February. He is now trying to change that contract midstream. ECB have actually been accommodating in paying him up in full to the end of the term: the bottom line, presumably is that they could have sued him for breach of contract."

i think if they sued him for breach of contract, then he would have said fine, and retired from tests as well.

Word on the street is Kevin Pietersen asked ECB to be rested for half of the forthcoming ODIs. ECB said no but KP didn't like the response and mentioned Andrew Strauss got rested for the tour of Bangladesh as an example, ECB turned round and said to KP shouldn't have played in the IPL.

KP then decides to retire from ODI cricket but said he'll be available to play in Tests and T20Is, ECB said you have to retire from T20s as well as ODIs, KP went ahead with the retirement of limited overs cricket.

Even as a KP fan, I think refusing to allow KP to rest from the ODIs is a fair call from the ECB given that he played in the IPL. But to say that, you cant play T20I if you retire from ODIs is ludicrous and is,needless to say, detrimental to the team's chances at the T20 World Cup.

Sounds about right, willing to make loads of cash in IPL and not honour his ECB contract.
