It's a good job they didn't have to cope with the trials and tribulations of playing a few games of cricket with a seven figure salary. I don't think they could have coped with the challenge.

Even the cricketers from those days used to play 40 odd First class games, 30 odd on the county circuit, plus games against the Uni's, and any touring sides. Most County-pros had to have a job in the winter to pay the bills, as the counties stopped paying them at the end of the season, so unless they got on an overseas tour they didnt get any additional help.

Who's decision was it to say no to KP's request?

We have rested a player who does not want to be rested and refused to rest a player who wanted a rest. Great man management, isnt it?

So, you still believe that playing in the IPL has nothing to do with it?

I think the ECB made the decision and not Flower regarding KP. I may be wrong though???

I think so too but I think Flower could have tried to do something if he really wanted KP.

Collingwood had scans on his left shoulder and has been advised to undergo a period of treatment and rehabilitation, with a specialist review to follow next week.

That is why he didnt play against Bangladesh and Eoin Morgan replaced him.

Arthur Crabtree wrote:True, it's the travel as much as the playing. And the lack of any settled life. Which is another reason why the ECB should be sympathetic to KP, and others' situation.

I’m sure they would be, if any sympathy was merited. Perhaps they thought it was in Strauss’s case, but don’t in Pietersen’s.

Any road up, it is to the ECB that Pietersen made a solemn and binding agreement to sell his services and he knew that this may include playing in ODIs. The ECB have every right to think he should keep to his side of the agreement he freely entered into and/or not to select him for Twenty20 matches if he doesn’t.

Very good points have been made about the tiredness our overworked cricketers must be suffering compared to players of yesteryear and people who do manual labour for a living.

whose to say he didnt try and reach a comprimise with the ECB and KP, Flower is only the coach and can only make a suggestion. And FYI, as saint points out Colly was rested after medical advise due to a shoulder injury.

Its also possible that the contracts were worded differently in 2010 which allowed for players to have play T20i's and miss ODI's.

What is the point of such speculation?
