The enigma that is Kevin Pietersen

What's buzzing in the world of cricket....

This drama reminds me of Vinod Kambli. A quality performer who was always compared by Mumbaites with Sachin, since we saw what he did in Harris shield, their respective clubs and Kanga leagues , having played in same teams and same set of opponents. But inspite of being a trouble for the team mates and headache for team managers Vinod never revealed it to anyone until he was finished as cricketer. He was rightfully sidelined though by the captains and managers. KP has faced the same fate. Kambli has been ably replaced by quality test players, and life should move on after KP as well. Hopefully, someone will grab the opportunity and gel well with the team.

For some resason I suddenly thought of Kipling's 'If'.

I've also just realised there have been 16 Olympic games in my lifetime.

We take so much for granted don't we.

Kevin Pietersen is the Paul Gascoine of England cricket.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Not really surprised to see the usual suspects posting utter drivel about KP.

People on here would have to go far to surpass the drivel pietersen has posted.

so graeme swann criticises kp and samit patel in his book and nothing happens, kp sends a private message criticising flower/strauss and is dropped. doesnt seem right to me, seems like favouritism, but then i suppose swann is one of the lads :dunno

I suppose the big question is what happens next. Are they going to leave him out of the side untill the dressing room is happy for him to come back, will he make the World T20 squad, is he going to be picked for any ODIs, will he be back for the India series?

The ECB haven't named the One Day or T20 side yet, I can't see how he gets into the ODI side at present though.

Surely this is more of a punishment for KP than the selectors really believing that they actually have a better chance of winning matches without him?

I'm a little suprised that they actually dropped him as it does nothing but aggravate the situation that came so close to being resolved earlier today.

I don't see what purpose dropping him actually serves.

Pietersen's relationship with Engaland follows a similar patteren to the way he bats. He's either playing magestic straight drives or taking wild cross bat shots to straight deliveries. Sending text messages to the opposing team during a match may turn out to be one cross bat shot too many.

Seems to me the ECB are doing this more to prove a point rather than anything else.

If KP isn't back in the side within the next 12 months I'll happily eat my hat.

KP getting back into the side is very much dependent on how he now reacts. Although he's made progress since the ill-fated press conference, there's still things left to fix, hence the dropping. That needs to be sorted first though it's best if it waits until after the Test. Then he needs to get himself into a situation where the ECB will be happy to offer a central contract. If he doesn't get offered one, or if he doesn't sign it, that's it in my opinion.
