I think he is a very handy squad player but long term first choice spinner? Regardless of his age, I'd say no. When does Dockrell qualify for England?

I think he's only been playing county cricket for 2 years so he'll qualify in 2014. Could be wrong though.

Think its sometime in 2013. Hopefully soon after the Champions Trophy.

I highly doubt that will be the team. I reckon we'll see quite a few new faces in the team in 3 years time.

Not really. Might as well let Ireland have Dockrell while we pick someone like Briggs.

Surely Briggs is the only likely choice for Englands ODI spinner long-term beyond Swann? Kerrigan is good but more of a first class cricket bowler IMO, like Monty.

Rafiq and Borthwick have a chance although they still have lots of improvement to do.

A more attacking option, I think. He is a potential wicket taker. Briggs more of a containing bowler. He can take wickets but doesn't turn it a lot and relies on change of pace and flight, which is not necessarily a bad thing and I think Briggs is a good prospect in ODI and T20I cricket. But I'd just prefer Dockrell. Maybe because he has done well in FC cricket.

Monty has done well in first class cricket, but we are not clamouring for him to be picked.

Not really to be honest.

If I had to bank on a young English spinner it would be Borthwick.

The thing is I see Dockrell as a long term Test option too.

Well, he has also done well for Ireland in the ODIs and T20Is, hasn't he? And against some top sides. He is a bowler for all the formats IMO. Though I would not necessarily be opposed to Briggs in ODIs. I rate him in the shorter formats. As for Monty, his problems are more than just his bowling. We all know how his fielding lives upto the standard required in modern day limited overs cricket.

Borthwick? For which format, M_S? And are you counting Dockrell as an "English" spinner?

I must admit I really like Briggs' variations and temperament. The lack of turn might be an issue though.

I actually don't think Docktrell is anything particularly special to be honest, Borthwick excites me far more but he needs a season or two yet to get everything nailed down.

Then again I always rated Munday and look what happened to him.

Will Beer is still only in his early 20s too.
