Is it off his own back, or off his own bat? I'm not nitpicking, just I've never been sure.

in this context the saying is "back" i think

Thanks. Off his own bat would be one of those cricket derived sayings of which there are many. Even flat track bully is threatening to enter everyday speech.

A point on the wayside, but I trust that Anderson's outburst about Vaughan will be followed by disciplinary action....

If questioning why the worst commentator in the world has a job gets you a fine because it goes against team ethics, then surely panning one of the most successful England captain's of all time with no reason would also be "prejudicial to ECB interests and a breach of the England conditions of employment" ????????

I'm not a tweeter so anyone who is and followed this guy has me at a disadvantage but I did see a number of those tweets published on BBC website and they seemed pretty innocuous and could have been concocted by anyone on this thread without any inside information.

sussex it seems that if your advice is followed practically half the England team will be dragged before the beak.

In the current climate, anything the players say will have the slightest antagonism wrung out and turned into a story. But it does help highlight that special rules apply to Pietersen, and the ECB probably had an agenda in applying them.

however if you started a twitter account mocking someone who your parents worked beside do you not think that it would be reasonable to assume that some of the information you put on it came from your parents ?

especially if your parents started following the account immediately after you started it and then proceeded to tell other people at their work about it who also started following it ?

or does basic common sense and probability not apply ?

So the answer is to make example of one person and shame them by a public slap on the wrist and fine, but others can say similar insulting and derogatory things about ex England players cum commentators and nothing happens.... does that sound like a transparent and fair dressing room to you?

I said before today I think Anderson's attitude stank in the last series, his constant bickering at his fielders, kicking the footholes at headingley in anger, shouting obscenities at Graham Smith every ball, even when he wasnt at the strikers end... and then this rather pointless attack on Vaughan, made at a time when the England team should be shutting the *modded* up and watching what they say! Its pure stupidity in my eyes.

In the current climate, anything the players say will have the slightest antagonism wrung out and turned into a story.

Its a pointless attack on Vaughan and lacks sense in timing as I said above. Why do it? I guess with the Knight affair the ECB were, either rightly or wrongly, telling KP that England players should keep irrelevant criticisms to themselves, so they should also make the same of Andersons pointless Vaughan attack

"Unfortunately, despite our cordiality now, I didn't enjoy Vaughan as a captain," Anderson, 30, said.

I see what you mean sussex, that statement is outrageous, get out the birch.

KPs comments about Knight weren't just cause for corporal punishment either.

AC I don't think there was a load of cordiality existing between Nick Night and KP at the time.

All this searching around for instances of alleged bad behaviour by other players, as though they are equivalent to Pietersen’s, with the implication that Pietersen has been singled out for harsh treatment, is quite hilarious. It really seems quite desperate too.

not at all

the criticism of KP has been done behind a banner of "team unity" and things like this just show the hypocrisy of that stance
