Difficult one. Both parents English. Born in Hong Kong. Lived all his life in Australia. A phenomenon with the bat. Warwicks seconds debut at 14. Aus under 19 debut at 16.

As Australian as Strauss is English then- which is English through and through, as far as I have ever thought.

Which away Ashes, Arthur? Are you saying he's gonna go this winter? Pretty sure he's categorically stated that he wants 10K runs. Think he'll go after 2015 WC/Ashes.

Prior will be there in 2015 for sure. Bell may not be but not necessarily due to age, just hard to predict his form.

I thought it was three years until the next Ashes, but it's two. Even so, KP won't be around for another Ashes series. I guess in two years, the team could be the same, but we'd need to phase in a couple of changes.

2017-18 for the next away one.

I thought Strauss went from SA to Australia (presumably picking up his politics there) at the age of about four. And then came here later on. Let me look it up. It's vague on wikipedia, and elsewhere. He came to England at the age of six, seemingly from SA. Then it appears that he went to school for a while in Australia and finished his education in UK.

I think you have to live in the uk now before the age of 18 otherwise you incur a huge qualifying period. So maybe he's keeping his options open. Or like Symonds, taking advantage of the opportunity to play in UK.

KP to play for Surrey on June 12, and will play three fc games before the first Test v Australia in Nottingham.

Good news. With Bresnan and Swann back, the injuries are clearing up in time for the Ashes. Just a shame KP isn't fit for NZ.

Not really clear what is happening with Tremlett. He's playing for Surrey, but hasn't been considered for England and isn't playing for the Lions.

If he is that much below par, it's strange that Surrey are picking him though. If he's good enough for Surrey to pick, then he might be considered for England. It's a bit of a paradox.

I'm starting to feel nervous about how reliably we can expect Australia to fail with the bat. They were doing ok, until they faced the South Africans, and the specific problem of facing India in India. Neither of these are a factor this summer. Clarke made huge runs under these impediments. So expect Bradmanesque feats from him. Especially if the sky remains clear, they should make 350+ most times.
