The idea of the same player not being able to win twice is a very good one or otherwise it would simply be the Test team winning every single year.

Re name it then, or just have a breakthrough/young player(s). Being one of the five is like Rangers saying they are the world record holders of trophies won. A bit worthless.

Not really, it recognises outstanding performances by any player in England for that year.

Yes there may be occasions where the one time rule does make it a little odd but still it is better - in my view at least - than having the same three players winning every year.

To be honnest the worst oversights in recent times have actually not been because of that rule - Masters missing out last year springs to mind!

Twatto steps down as vc which is perhaps not a surprise, don't know why it would happen now though.

Watson needs to be bowling to command a place in the side, as a batsman he's very droppable but then again so is most of the team baring Clarke.

yeah, but he's back bowling in the IPL and he said the plan was to get back to bowling by starting with a few overs in IPL so he should be back bowling enough to be Aus' 5th bowling option for the Ashes. That should take care of any concerns about being dropped

The issue seems to be a lack of clarification over what Watson's role in the side is.

If he's required to be an all rounder to play then he shouldn't be being picked when he can't bowl, if he's a top order batsman who also bowls then he should be judged on his batting etc.

Strauss continues to work his way into the governance of the game being elected as one of the two past player representitives on the ICC Cricket Committee.

Have to laugh that the BCCI chap as the players representitive - I thought the BCCI doesn't agknowledge player's unions.

Yes, big blow for SA with their Test team all conquering. Hope it's not a serious problem, of course.
