Paul Collingwood would be ok with me.

Who would want it though, bar Giles?

Plenty. It seems a well paid job, with plenty of perks, for doing relatively little and even less if there are no players with huge egos in the team.

I have to say I’m not too bothered who gets it, but maybe it’s time to try an Englishman again.

Most candidates seem to have other (better) jobs it seems, apart from Giles, who just has another one. He looks like the safe and easy option.

Please don't let it be Giles.

Jason Gillespie would be my choice, but appears he has no interest and is happy at Yorks.

We can probably just accept that is going to be Giles. There are some understandable reservations about this as not only has he not produced results in his current capacity but was involved in the frankly daft Test squad selection for the recently concluded Australia tour. What of course we don't know is exactly how much say he has had in overall squad selection and team selection, there has always been the feeling that Flower headed up Team England and Giles got what ever slack to play with that Flower gave him.

It must be said in Giles' defence, that he has taken the opportunity to make interesting selection such as Carbs, Stokes, Jordan and Rankin. While they have not all come off, he has at least had a bit more creativity and consistancy than Flower, and his time at Warks has been largely well recieved.

Interesting that Lehmann is considered more of a favourite for the job than Warne.

Just a few of those who follow England all over the world yet will never put their heads on the block - just take the easy commentating route:

Gower, Atherton, Boycott, Botham, Vaughan, Hussein, Marks, Ward. Aggers has his own entourage - plus there's the ever-smiling Bob Willis. That's just off the top of my head.

At least Bumble had a crack and knows what the job entails.

England have advertised the position of Head Coach.

The report I have read says that three people have applied for it.

Giles
Robinson
Newell

And some very hypothetical press stories have proposed the following.

Moores
Vaughan
Collingwood.

There is no evidence that overseas coaches are looking at the job. Moody and Kirsten have said they don't want it. Most other plausible candidates already have good positions in IPL.

It looks like the first three, with a possible late move from Moores. My guess is that Giles will get it, as he at least has played international cricket. I'm not sure you can read too much into his stint so far, as he was under Flower all that time.

Whoever takes it has been left with a bit of a mess to clear up, and a team in an acute phase of a chronic decline. Whoever is successful needs to know the county game well, and to learn the lessons of the last two years. Giles seems best placed in both respects.
I always say that everybody's right.

I've also applied for the job, my track record with International Captain Cricket should stand me in good stead :D

The post is essentially Giles' unless England have a nightmare tour of the Windies and T20 World Cup.

Will you pick the whole of the Yorkshire team or none of it?
