And if England lose to India and Cook is replaced?

The ECB can't back peddle now, without losing what ever tiny amount of credibility they still have left.

The interesting situation would be if the new coach wasn't Giles.

In truth, the ECB's decision to sack Pietersen will be seen as many as not harming their credibility at all.

And of course to others it demonstrates yet another example of the persistently poor management that has characterised the Flower era.

Yes, of course. Opinions on this matter are, for the most part, polarised. The weight of evidence, though, particularly that of admitted behaviour by Pietersen, would appear to support those who think the ECB have finally done the right thing.

Nothing but your opinion, D/L.

Continued mismanagement of players throughout Flower's reign from dealing with injuries, mental health, the recursive failure of young players, bewildering selections, lack of consistency in selection etc etc would suggest that KP was simply part of a wider ineptitude of management.

The admitted insulting texts about Strauss were a little more substantial than “opinion” and were reason enough for Pietersen to have been sacked there and then, M_S.

Mismanagement, to a degree, will be present in any organisation but to present the Pietersen problem as a manifestation of this seems a little naïve. Some people are unmanageable.

Pietersen’s case was hardly helped by Piers Morgan’s interventions and there’s an old saying that goes something like “by their friends shall ye know them”. It’s hard to think of another person who could have intervened and galvanised public opinion so quickly and so firmly against Pietersen.

The outcome of an incident should be is your opinion, D/L.

I do think the repeated failures in management across Flower's tenure somewhat undermine the phrase, "unmanageable". When an international coach can't even manage player's injuries, I suppose we have to accept slightly lower expectations when it comes to handling more difficult situations.

Flower never managed to sort out the number 6 slot, so I may agree given his limited management capabilities that KP was unmanageable for him.

This also occured in the Fletcher era, as a result The Ashes 2005 winning squad didn't play again since they regained the urn.

It makes me smile that people can be so knowledgeable of the management of something and yet never see it from the inside.

It will be seen as the right decision by many. But not harming their credibility? They have done a poor job of announcing and managing the decision and have therefore damaged their credibility.

If there was a confidentiality agreement then it is, of course, open to either party to seek damages if there has been, in their opinion, a breach of whatever is in the agreement.

I hope this is the last of the saga - but I wouldn't bet on it - now or in the future.

Really? India winning anything outside the subcontinent?
By the end of the tour, we'll make some fringe player look like a world beater and lose all matches from winning positions. Ishant will take 5-500 and will be retained because he took 5 wickets.

Sorry rant over. I am still frustrated with the B Mac 300 and Kohli dropping him when he was on 10 to think rationally.
