Great game last night, in the El Classico. Messi's penalties were magnificent. Take notice England.

Sadly we haven't got anyone in our squad who's even in the class below Messi. Great player great penalty taker.

Agree it was a very good game, didn't think Ronaldo or Bale reached their usual high standards. Two dubious penalties and one cast iron one and a deserved sending off although it does again bring into question the old chestnut about double punishments. I would still like to see a tweeking of the rule even though it has been decided not to change it, maybe deferring the red card to a yellow if the penalty is successful, or the referee having discretion about whether a spot kick would give the attacking side a better position to score than the original position when the foul took place and deferring to a yellow. Anything where the player would have had a tap in or a player handles when the ball is on route into the net the referee can give a red card aswell as a penalty, because the penalty perhaps isn't punishment enough.

Thought pepe could have gone as well. It looked like he butted, albeit very softly, Fabregas.

Was sent off in a game vs Roma when Real Madrid were knocked out in the first group shockingly about 5 years ago, he also was sent off vs Barcelona for a dangerous tackle (straight red) on Dani Alves last time Barcelona won the Champions League, so for a start that cant be true.

He was also banned for about a third of a la liga season for getting sent off vs Getafe and then kicking an injured player rolling around on the floor who he thought had dived, before rounding it off by punching one of Getafe's players in the ensuing melee... I doubt the ref showed him a second yellow for that, the whole of Spain wanted his head after that performance.

Did he not get sent off for nearly killing Alves in a Super Cup game in the last 2 years as well??? Or was it Messi? You know, the one that ended with Mourinho trying to gouge Guiardiola's eye as the touchline ended in a 15 man brawl?

I remember watching the Madrid derby a fortnight ago when he was one yellow card away from a one match ban.He was piling into every tackle late to try and get the ref to book him so he could ensure his suspension was enforced the following week and not in the Classico. As it turns out Madrid would probably wish he had got suspended for yesterday's game.

My mistake Pob, he has 3 La Liga reds, all 2nd yellow, and 2 CL reds, 1 straight, 1 2nd yellow.

These are only his Real Madrid stats though, not sure about his record at Porto
