So much of sport is mental perception. The appointing of a coach is suppose to bring with it a change of perception for the good, but with Moores, whether rightly or wrongly, his previous reign brings with it weathered rememberance.

In that regard he already starts with a legacy of damage as strongly as his current team can muster.

It works two ways though. Either his vulnerability in a squad of vulnerable professionals finds a common bond and work together very well, after all moores returning would have been out the question with a strong core squad, or his vulnerability fails to mesh his squad to his ideas.

I think with this one the question mark means he will be dead without passable returns in twelve months.

As far as anyone can gather, it was only Pietersen with whom Moores had a problem in his first spell as coach. Given what we've seen from Pietersen since, I doubt any player would hold that against him.

I'd expect to see three or four new faces in the team before the end of the summer.

Both his captain's clearly clashed with him, and moores sold both down the river to attempt to save himself. Various players have also the inferred moores methods Sat very poorly with the experienced members of his squad, and quite a few have said derogatory things since he left

Colly, Strauss, Flintoff, Monty, Flintoff, Vaughan all didn't rate Moores. The only person I've heard defend him is Anderson. Pietersen was representing his team when he went to the ECB with his issues. The ECB asked him for a report. When they got it, they went to the press with it, and used it to sack KP as well as Moores. None of his team mates stood up for Pietersen at the time. This is all well known.

Anderson may have thought better to criticise his new county coach

interesting that MPV thinks Moores and Cook will work well together. I'd imagine that that is because Cook will just let Moores get on with things, the way he just let Flower get on with things, without complicating matters by offering the occasional thought or opinion.

If flower maintains oversight on moores, how much trust can moores get from cook? After all, cook has failed as captain and owes a debt to flower for keeping his job.

Swann too. From his autobiography:
[see original post above}

I too have Swann's autobiography. These are extracts from chapter 12: Mutiny in the Camp that convey Swann's overall attitude to Moores. I haven't just cherry picked! It wasn't only KP who had problems.

Several months earlier I would never have guessed this situation could have arisen because I felt Moores was doing a fairly decent job. But the second that Kev was made captain the previous August something had to give because captain and coach were so diametrically opposed. …

…. You could tell that the two of them [KP & Moores] didn’t like each other, that was fairly transparent, and there were others similarly at odds with the coach, but within a dressing room you always get people that don’t get on particularly well. From my perspective, I felt a bit sorry for Mooresy because undoubtedly it was he who got me back onto the international scene, and he’d done a fairly good job. Sure, there were things he did as England coach that I did not agree with whatsoever, like that crazy post-match training in Napier, but I liked him as a bloke; his commitment and energy towards the job could never be questioned, and my feeling was that he had been hard done by. Yet Kev was adamant that Moores was a county coach who could not cut the mustard at the top level. When a captain goes renegade like that, I am not sure how you should handle it, but it was probably for the best that they changed the captain as well, because out of all the disharmony we ended up with the right man as captain of England, and a world-class coach as well. Perhaps the ECB saw the ruck as a bit of a watershed moment and moved to draw a line beneath the whole affair. There was probably quite a strong element within the ECB who would rather have had Andrew Strauss as captain anyway, and his appointment as leader for the tour of the West Indies was equally well received by the players.

Got to love Jonathan agnew... Saying moores has a better chance because he isn't inherting a squad like first time( he didn't then Jon, the whole squad was torn apart)... And that now the dead wood is gonna he can pick hungry New guys....

And by dead wood he means our highest averaging player in a long time, our best spinner since the 70's, our most successful run scoring batsman ever and one of the few wicket keeper in history to bat that well....

I don't think Aggers means to refer to any of those players as "dead wood" does he? Did he actually use that phrase? Downton referred to the fact that Strauss has not yet been convincingly replaced, and it can be added that neither has Collingwood, several years since he retired. And now replacements are needed for Swann and KP - and despite the criticisms in my posts I don't dispute that he was worth his place in the team, all other considerations apart - and now Trott looks unlikely to play for England again. And Prior has to fight to regain his place. Cook is always keen to stress that places are up for grabs and he likes to accompany that with a warning (IMO he enjoys issuing it a little too much) that "nobody's place is safe". (Except his own, obviously).

I would say on KP's side were Vaughan, Collingwood, Strauss, Harmison and Hoggard
Behind Moores - Cook, Anderson, Flintoff, Swann, Prior, Sidebottom
Broad? Panesar? Bell?

Flintoff tweeted : "Peter Moores is a fantastic coach, motivator and man. Good luck Sir!"

It was said at the time that Freddie encouraged KP to go to the ECB with reservations about Moores, but when questioned, actually backed Moores. Funny that Downton cites the opinion of the senior players regarding KP, meaning Cook and Prior, but Moores being opposed by senior players last time wasn't an impediment to bringing him back. Downton has quite explicitly called Cook a weak skipper. Presumably Cook can't cope with the demands KP makes of him. But Downton's comment must have undermined Cook publically in a way Pietersen never has, in my recollection. Though he did Strauss of course.
I always say that everybody's right.

My idea was that mist of the players had problems but some of the older guys like harmison and Flintoff had careers to think of prolonging, Vaughan was retired, and Strauss got the job he wanted by shutting up.

Quite a lot of the players reading between the lines say they agreed with Kp but didn't have the balls to stand with him for a host of selfish reason, or for lance players, because moores was still their boss
