This thread was created 3 years back during India's tour of England in 2011. 3 years forward and with less than 6 months to go for the mega event in Aus/NZ, we must be close to finalizing our WC plans. The final stage of the planning for the WC begins tomorrow with the ODI squad for the England all set to be named. Hope the "wise men" do their job properly because unlike in 2011, only 3 players really pick themselves (Kohli, MSD and Bhuvi). I've been campaigning for Pujara to be included in the ODI side for the last 2 years now but I'm afraid he hasn't really taken his (albeit very limited) chances vs Zim and BD. The lack of strike rotation was quite alarming in the ODIs he played in BD in June and with him not quite being in the best form in Tests, it'd be difficult to pick him for ODIs at this stage. I've been a vocal critic of the selection of Rahane in ODIs but since he is one of the very few Indian batsmen in any nick atm and having proven his ability to play world class fast bowling in tough conditions albeit in a different format, we might just be better off keeping the faith in him. Hopefully, he'll improve. Unlike in tests though where he clearly belongs in the middle order, I hope this joke of using him as a no.4 in ODIs is over. His technical prowess and the ability to play in tough conditions is best utilised at the top of the order in ODIs. He doesn't have the big hitting game or the strike rotation to bat in the middle order in ODIs.
Kedar Jadhav, who averages over 50 in LA cricket and had a stellar domestic and IPL season apart from scoring 3 fifties in as many matches for Ind A in Aus, must be picked. Could be the right fit at 5. Manoj Tiwary did well for India A in Aus in both the FC and LA matches and bowled well too. I'd like to see him at 4.
Mohit Sharma and Dhawal Kulkarni were the standout bowlers in the limited overs matches in Aus and deserve a place in the ODI squad.
Will be interesting to see if Ishant gets an ODI recall on the basis of his Test form (I hope not!).
