Got it over the wall nicely but not enough pace to trouble the keeper.

Thought we were comfortably better than Liverpool in that game.

Difference was they had Sturridge and Sterling, whereas we had Pelle and Davis.

We're still missing Rodriguez with injury, and I still believe that we've yet to sign that forward/winger who will just add that touch of quality. But a very positive start to this brand new era.

I see LVG was at the Ajax game today.

Looks like Daley Blind will be a Utd player this week.

Daley Blind even being mentioned rather sums up just how disastrously Man United are handling their affairs since Fergie went. They just signed a £27 million quid left back, and with problems in a lot of the squad, they now make the focus of their transfer policy to sign another.

Van Gaal claims he was consulted about these signings and that they "were on his radar", but then he criticized Luke Shaw before he even played a game, and clearly does not rate him, ranting about his fitness. Isnt it strange that Man United agreed with Van Gaal on two players they were linked with under Moyes? Did Van Gaal really identify Herrera as his main target? So Van Gaal wanted two left backs and a Moyes scout to purchase all off season before he joined??? Strange that, as no one in La Liga or the Premier League even cared to notice Herrera.

Real Madrid are embarrassing United off the pitch. James has a stormer of a world cup, and a week after he has a Real shirt on... for about the same as Man United spunked on two players they dont need. No fuss, pick the player, sign him.

They spent all last year trying idiotically to buy a player Martimo didnt want to sell, then LE comes in to Barca and sell him, and Man United let him got to Chelsea without a fight? Instead they spent a similar amount of money on a 25 year old who has never been on the Spanish national teams radar, he is a decent player, but a Fabragas? Nope.... a Sanchez? No.... Santi Cazorla is no world beater, but even he has 65 Spain Caps.

Man United is Man United. They shouldnt be buying players from Everton, Bilbao or Chelsea players who cant get a game.... they should, like Madrid, be saying who was the best player at the world cup.

Its endless.... Toni Kroos basically came out and said "Dear Man United, please PLEASE PLEASE sign me"..... and while they were fiddling with their balls in their pocket, he had an awesome world cup, no suprise, for the CM that Man United need his arguably the best in the world, and then signed for Madrid.

Im disappointed, as Van Gaal seems to be stuck in "Holland World Cup" mode at the moment. Man United need to stop being planks and splash down £60 million on a world beater, not the crap from average teams you can get cheaper, but isnt world class.

Watching United in the transfer market is a lot like seeing a bloke in a faded shell suit search the bargain bin of his local petrol station for those "now only 50p" DVD's they have that no one wants...... while Arsene is at the counter buying the new blockbuster released on blue ray

Yep, in addition to the fact that Shaw was linked to Utd throughout Moyes' reign, that LVG appears to be going with a 3-5-2, 5-3-2, 3-4-1-2 type formation is also a strong sign that he didn't request the signing of Shaw.

Shaw is all about the defending, not the attacking. To use him as a left wing back, or, worse, a left midfielder, would not only leave Utd lacking in that position, but it would also be a big waste of Shaw's talent.

You ask to sign Shaw, for the best part of £30m, if you want a top quality LB who will improve your back four.

I have it on good authority that the Shaw deal was done around January time.

Well they have spent somewhere in the region of 125 million on Shaw, Felliani, Mata and Herrera.

For that money in the last 12 months they could have bought James, Kroos, Thiago Alcantra or Fabragas and signed Blind.... midfield problems over, and would still have some change left on what they did buy.

I read an interesting comparison for instance on Herrera and James transfers in the Norwegian press lately.... apparently Real Madrid's purchase of James has cost no more than Herrera, he already generated 22million in shirt sales, and £10million extra in sponserships linked to Colombia and South America.

Man United sell about the same as Real in shirts, the difference is Real's is based on huge surges for shirts to neutral fans who wanted "Bale" or "James" on the back...... with Man United's global fan base, a transfer like James or Bale could be 50% funded by a similar shirt sale boost, but there is no ambition there.

Real Madrid sold 900 James shirts on day 1 or something.

The 22 million is a myth and will remain so.

Agree with you otherwise SP's, it's embarrassing. Southampton have done better business than United in this window and they've lost half their team.

345,000 worldwide, according to suggested figures within 48 hours of his purchase. The 900 figures is how many the club shop sold in the hour of his official unveiling.

The figure is widely reported in many publications, not seen any counter myth stories
