Welbeck...... 3 goals since Jan 2014 in the PL.... classed as "Flowering"....

Rooney.... 3 goals in 5 games this season.... widely attacked, criticised all the time, classed as an indefensible pick.

Lets hear the next one.....

How about "But Welbeck is played as a wing-forward all the time, and doesn't start much".....

You think Rooney started much as the number one striker at Man United when Van Nistelrooj, Ronaldo, Saha, Tevez, Berbatov, Van Persie, etc were there? Remember, Ferguson adopted a 4-3-3 at this time, so Rooney was often the left wing forward, very rarely the central focal point.

The season when Ronaldo and Tevez left, and Berbatov was not really looking that great as a purchase and Rooney played up top, he scored 26 goals in 32 games..... 6 more goals than Welbeck managed in 6 years at United.

anyone who thinks Welbeck is a brilliant player should watch Arsenal's equaliser vs Tottenham.... ball rolled to him 5 yards out, he goes to shoot, misses the ball, falls over.....

Wayne Rooney would have broke the net.

That's the difference.

Not sure why Welbeck scoring has anything to do with Rooney and England, shanky? Anyway, I don't think they're in direct competition for a place. As it is, Sturridge is injured, so expect Rooney, Welbeck, and Sterling to play in the next qualifier.

Be interesting to see what Roy does, when Sturridge returns. I'd be surprised to see Sturridge, Welbeck, and Sterling in the same team.

Didn't realise England were playing tonight.

On a Thursday.

This is crazy. You knew where you stood with Wednesdays and Saturdays. Now it just seems any day will do.

So what will England be expecting?

5-0

I like Milners comments of Rooney beating Charltons goal scoring record over the next 2 games

I still have memories of San Marino scoring after about 15 seconds of Graham Taylor's final match in charge.

Stuarts Pearce's light back pass. 1993 I think? The dark days.

Very dark days. Also remember that embarrassing documentary Taylor agreed to take part in showing him running the England side.

"Do I not like that" was a brilliant watch.... some of Taylor's musings were sensational.....

"ITS GOT TO GO SON...ITS GOT TO GO BIG! ITS GOT TO GO BBBBBBIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGG" or "GO LES, GO LES.... HIT LES!!! HIT LES OVER THE TOP"

I watched that Wayyyyyyyy too many times.
